Dog Suicide Bridge, Scotland

in unsolved •  11 months ago

Overton Bridge in Dumbarton, Scotland, built in 1859, is famous for the large number of dogs who committed suicide by jumping from the bridge. Incidents of dogs committing suicide on bridges were recorded in the 1950s and 1960s, and suicides continue to this day. However, there is little evidence that dogs are actually capable of carrying out and understanding suicidal behavior, which suggests that there may be a smell in the vicinity of the bridge that induces dogs to dare such a leap despite the height.
