First, I will like to thank @surpassinggoogle for this opportunity to share my story before and after joining Steemit.
In the beginning...
I first learnt about Steemit in July 2017, when I registered my first account. As a journalist and writer, the platform captured my interest immediately. However, I was totally lost, didn't know what to do, as everything looked like magic to me. I eventually ditched the account and moved on.
Fast forward to December 2017, a friend @jajdgenius, heard about Steemit from his Twitter pal @gentleshaid and told me about it.
The conversation went like this;
Jajdgenius: Guy, have you heard about this website where you write and earn money?
Me: Which one? Fiverr? Upwork?
Jajdgenius: No. They call it Steemit.
Me: Steemit? I joined in April but didn't know how to use it. I have an account with them already.
I immediately started searching through my mails for the login details of my first account but to my disappointment, Steemit does not have the recover password feature. I was distraught and wanted my old account back, for sentimental reasons of course.
When it dawn on me that I was never going to get back my account, I opened a new one and the journey began. I was still clueless but with the help of @gentleshaid, I started gathering some knowledge about the platform. I first approached my writing on Steemit, like a journalist writing a news article. Writing with a certain freestyle and without proper referencing. Then I met @Seyiodus and @futurethinker on a group for steemians. These two people helped me through my first days on Steemit. From styling, to fact-finding, to proper referencing of texts and images, they taught me all of it. I have also received immense support from @steemstem and @stemng.
The group also changed my approach towards Steemit as a money making machine. When I joined Steemit, all I wanted to do was make money. I mean MAKE A LOT OF MONEY. But I later realized that Steemit was far beyond that. It is a community, a community of writers who want to help build a formidable platform. That approach, I have also employed in my daily activities and work ethics.
Before Steemit came into my life, I was an Instagram freak. Little did I know that these social media sites were making me average and dormant. Because I am a journalist, I have a lot of free time on my hands, now I use my free time more effectively, critically thinking and analysing situations.
Steemit was the game changer for me. This year, I want to introduce people to the platform, lauch my freelancing career, resign my job and worry about nothing.
Really happy for you bro, I pray you become a better person in 2018. 🙏 🙏
