Hello steemians,
Something happened around me almost 24 hours ago and made me realized that the value we placed on our health is as important as the value we placed on our lives.
The fact that we are looking good and healthy on the outside does not guarantee that everything is going on well inside of us. Hence, there is need for regular medical check up and examinations of our body.
No matter how strong we are, our body has its elastic point and when that point is reached by reason of us not paying adequate attention to out body, it breaks down thereby making us prone to attacks health wise.
Back to my story, I was about to retire to the bed around 10:35pm after a stressful day at work yesterday when my neighbour called me to request for my help. His wife was sick and needed to be taken to the hospital for medical attention with my car.
This woman according to her daughter's report was doing fine all day without any sign of sickness until around 7pm when she complained of weakness from within her and later gravitated to a severe headache. She was taking to the family hospital where she was rejected on the ground that there is no doctor available to attend to her. This got me furious. How can a standard hospital like that be without at least a doctor at time of the day attend to patients and other emergencies?
To cut the story short, her condition deteriorated and we ended at the emergency unit of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Nigeria around 11:45pm. There she was diagnosed to be hypertensive with a high blood pressure of 270/110. Myself and her husband started running up and down settling medical bills and getting other things as requested by the doctors to stabilize her condition. By the time we were done, it was 2:17am. I could not return home to my wife and two children so i decided stay back in the hospital till 5:45am when i drove back home to dress up for work with my eyes heavy with sleep.
While at the hospital, series of emergencies were brought in, I also saw many patients who were admitted with varying degree of deteriorating health conditions. Some of them in so much pain and all these experiences got me thinking;
Many people don't appreciate how important it is to be in good health until they found themselves on the sick bed where a minute looks like one hour.
Why am I sharing this, it is very important that we pay good attention to our health. Let's not wait until it get deteriorated before we begin to look for cure. We will save ourselves a whole lot of things if we stay healthy always.
Health is indeed wealth. The cost of ignorance is always high than the cost of knowledge.
