There is a word that has escaped me for as long as I can remember. Literally. I know the word but within the context of me trying to explain how I don't care much for "Patriotism" then willy nilly applying that to fanboying. I never could pin down what I meant.

I do that often though, I know what I think I mean or I can feel that it is the right general area but it is not home.

I was reading a comic on twitter today, it is fucking awesome. The guy released the book and although I have not checked how much it is because I can assume it costs a lot. It was nice of him to share some pages. This is the Comic Thread and this is the comic that reminded me:

So, maybe as a reminder to myself that people who freak out over a favourite band or some idiot that is excited over their team playing, a parent who can't shut up about their child or the obvious classic where they think their country is just the best. I am more of the mind the more local it is to me the more shit it is, so seeing as I live in South Africa then there is, fortunately, nothing good about it.

So glad I figured it out because now I can say I do not care much for peoples pride, combine that with excitement and they downright irk me.

Then again. I do understand pride maybe not "their pride" and I experience it, unfortunately, but like all good things, it is best to not do it in public and within moderation.

I'm with you on that. The words pride and proud are kind of worn out. There's a company where I live that sells windows, and in their commercials, they shout their company's name loudly, followed by the word "proud," repeatedly!

I guess boasting and the associated pride aspect is necessary to those who like to be the center of attention, while more humble people recognize they've done something helpful or good but keep it inside.

That is definitely something I do not like and find it obnoxious, it goes hand in hand with them then calling every other company shit. My boss is like that "Sales Man" like, everything is the greatest and we can supposedly do anything. Heck if someone said yes he would promise to build them a house even though we are a printing company. It is that pride and then trying to prove themselves over and over only to mess things up combined with greed that a person sees a lot of in "entrepreneurs." Too much pride in your own work, accomplishments or business sets of many alarm bells for me.

Also, I don't want to work for someone that boasts so much that there is no room for shit to just go wrong. Under promise and over deliver is my motto :)

Exactly why I could never be a salesman! It's true that in most cases where people work as salespeople, there is a required level of dishonesty that one must have, or they will fail in their attempt at being a salesperson. And that's especially true when selling cars!

Once when I was between jobs, I saw an ad for a Mercedes dealer, a really posh place they have, and I applied, thinking that I could sell Mercedes without having a bad conscience at day's end. Well, I didn't even make it to an interview, but I later learned that Mercedes has like the worst record for cars that require the most mechanical attention. I was glad I never got that job!

Haha agreed I could not be a salesperson either. I have two derogatory terms I use to refer to white trash one is a neighbourhood by me which if I say you are from there then you are trash, and the other is car salesman :)

You know what they say about pride in the Bible?

Life is too short to be bothered with stupid stuff. In the last week, I have lost my father, found a friend in a pool of blood who died four days later. It has been a real blow and yet I tread on.

People are souls having a human experience. They should have no pride. They should just be grateful.

That is a very harsh blow and I do hope you are able to keep treading, I will assume if only for those that rely on you.

I know the bible probably has some words about pride as it would be in line with wealth and the myriad of ways the poor and weak are promised heaven. I do like this line that I googled:

Pride goes before destruction.

Can't disagree with that, but it is also not what we see. Maybe it is just the timeline and I am too much of an instant gratification junkie. In many many years to come the destruction will follow.

I think maybe pride is just part of the human experience. If that experience includes the science we have today then pride is merely an aspect akin to how strength used to be one of the main traits, then came things like producing our own food and those able to produce and store the most had status over some dumb brute. Sure pride in your work and self the more subtle self-improvement version I would say has its value. Like we say I dress pretty for myself. which is a bit of a lie haha. I don't see pride as something that should be applied to the outside and it should definitely not be something used for "gain" So yeah I agree, and maybe all the nuances I mention have other names but grateful would be another term that I at face value find to be dismissive and defeatest.

Although I do think you mean it in an enlightened way, which I can see but might nitpick on what I am grateful about. :)

Thank you for visiting and commenting when you surely have a lot you are dealing with now. I hope that tread turns into a skip over time and not a trudge.

I understand what you are saying - also does not make sense to me shouting and crying over things or a person, but I also do believe that even through all the shit of this country there are still good people and things that happen - so sometimes I just need to concentrate on that because if you just concentrate on what the idiots are doing to our country, we will go crazy. I think sometimes we need to spend energy on the good things, not just the bad, even if they are few and far between. Do you know how difficult it is for a teacher not to loose it if we learn about our country???

Haha, I think there are some great wtf moment stories you can tell about maybe what people assume of the country and what is fact. Yeah, there is good, but I don't tend to focus on it too much. I am aware of it and them I just don't think it really matters in a broader scope. Things that are good seem to me to be a personal thing, good go about their business and does not affect others. The bad spreads, it is at the top and drips down and spreads on the ground in an attempt to eradicate the good. I don't really mind thinking on the bad and I think the only time it takes energy from me is when I am confronted by such a person be it just a general interaction or worse. Thinking and ranting about these things I feel is energy well spent because I am deliberating and although I state an opinion I know that opinion can be changed provided honest criticism. That for me at least feels like growing, whether I change the world does not matter but whether I change myself for the better, I would hope so. Not to veer too far from the good. I think good is there but I don't think good, will mind me leaving it out of the discussion.

I understand totally what you say and agree and mostly also feel like this - you just have a much better way of putting it into words.
