Fun little off write

I have really been trying to make sure I am giving myself time this week to get inspired by my project and playing Barbara-Anne. It's tricky when you are producing and worrying about so many things to prioritize the character work. I have been watching a ton of Marilyn Monroe footage, listening to Southern Dialects and really embodying Barbara-Anne whenever I can so when I'm on set I can really just play.

In doing some off writing (meaning writing in character but not for the script) I wrote this fun dark piece I thought I'd share with you about Barbara-Anne's Guide to Murder (now I realize out of context anyone reading this will be like...uhhhh what's up with this girl?! But remember this is a dark comedy and the pieces you see in bold are things for my Art Department to consider when it comes to dressing the set).

How to set the Mood for a Perfect Murder

Put on your finest dress. Something that takes his breath away but isn’t too fancy. Tie your apron just right, a perfect bow in the back, because remember you want to look great from all angles. Your make up and hair must be perfect. Be generous with your hairspray! In truth darling you can never have too much hairspray, you want your hair to hold up throughout the entire performance. No one wants to be worrying about a hair being out of place when they’re trying to enjoy themselves now do they?

Once you look perfect it’s time to cook the perfect meal. Make his favorite Tuna Casserole with extra cheese on top so it bubbles in the oven, he’ll know it’s a special night when you’re not worrying about your waistlines. Make sure you have a fluffy and delicious Strawberry Shortcake prepared and that you don’t over whip the whipped cream. Take a dallop on your finger and if it sits fluffy without melting you’ve got a winner. Keep it cool in the fridge because after a night of action you’re going to want to make sure it’s chilled just right. I also recommend making some classic jello desserts that will keep so there are lots of options for you and your guest’s sweet tooths. Also keeping your hands busy leading up to the big event is important and keep you from getting too excited too soon and spoiling the evening.

Setting the scene is very important. A freshly pressed table cloth, your finest dishes and cutlery for each course is key. Light candles in your finest holders and make sure they are the center of the table. Dim the lights ever so slightly to set the tone. Everyone looks wonderful in candle light and your guest will appreciate you taking the time to ensure the ambiance is just right. Never estimate the power of good lighting.

Finally after all your hard work it’s time to prepare the cocktail of choice. Something spirit forward thats bold but still classy. I like to make a Manhatten with maraschino cherries. Add your ingredients together in proper glassware, use large ice cubes and and be sure to stir the drink (never shake). When the cocktails are ready get out that jar of cherries and place 2 in each. It calls for one, but this is a special occasion so don’t be stingy dear...

In your final moments check your lipstick in your perfectly polished knife to cut the cake and give yourself a spritz of perfume (nothing too floral, it’s tacky).

Oh and a friendly reminder..

Make sure you have  rubber gloves, bleach, cleaning wipes, bucket and sponge on hand for tidying up after. I also like to keep fresh lemons around because they are a natural sanitzer that have a lovely fresh scent without using too many chemicals. Also they look lovely and could be a part of your centre piece. It’s important that your cleaning supplies isn’t too out of the ordinary or your husband may be suspicious and we wouldn’t want him to worry now would we?
