Donations to associations and organizations whose aim is to save the whales is already a good support but you can always do more for the planet and for this magnificent creature.

1. Wisely choose how to watch whales

There are two main ways to look at whales. The first one is in captivity and the second one is to look at whales in their natural habitats.
In the first way, it means that the whales and the dolphins are in captivity and they aren’t free of movements. They are separated from their families and friends. Even though they are taking care of by « specialists » it will never be the same as when they are in their natural environments. Also, don’t forget that these whales and dolphins are trained everyday to do some tricks to impress the visitors and to get some food.
To avoid that, you can choose a boat operator that includes a whales and dolphins seeing. You will be able to look at whales and dolphins in the wild. It will actually show the governments how important whales and dolphins are for their tourism industry and make changes in countries whose whaling is still on-going like Japan, Norway and Iceland.

2. Want to try some whale meat? NO

It is advised to not visit these countries and end up trying some whale meat. If the tourists ask for these meat it will be a reason for the countries to keep on whaling. When you visit these countries you should never go to try whale’s meat and show the government how the whale meat consuming is declining and making it not worth to do whaling anymore.

3. Don’t throw your trash randomly

Make sure that you always throw your trash in garbage can and select the trashes. 6.4 tons of trash are floating in the Ocean every year. The dolphins and whales could be entangled in those trash or could even eat those trashes as a consequence they could die from it.
For example a Sei whale swallowed a plastic DVD case which cut into her stomach and left her unable to eat.

4. Sign a petition

It is always important to show that you are against the whaling. One signature is one more voice. You can sign into local and global petition on change.org.

5. Write a letter.

One letter addressed to the Norwegian or Japanese government may not be impactful but you can still write a letter and send it to an organization whose goal is to save the whales and they would collect letters from all over the world to send it to the different governments. Having more than one letters may have an impact on these governments and their positions about the whaling. You should never underestimate the power of the mass.
