I'm a bit confused at the reward distributions. Could you please elaborate?

From what I understand from your post, it's best to upvote after 30 minutes. Is that so?

Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

    yes, in order to receive 25% curation rewards :D But this depends also on your steem power in comparation with the other who votes. it is a really complex process
