I have just over a dollar in steemit dollars--how do i vote using this money
when i have tried it gives me 0.00 as an option???

You don't spend your Steem dollars to vote. If you vote you're just saying that this is good content and steem dollars/steem powers produced every day are going to the content creator. And if you have low amount of steem power then it is still 0.00. If you have more steem power, then your vote will give more to content producer.

Just simply vote(like I did just now for your comment). You didn't got any SD or SP from me, because I don't have enough steem power. You have been rewarded by those, who had much more steem power than me. You have to earn more Steem power to have more influence in voting.

@budgiebee Kinda. But I think it's good, you have to work hard(write, comment, vote), earn reputation, SP, followers and finally you will be a big fish with tons of followers :)

Hello, I've just loooked through your blog because I was looking for others posting about London.
So you can also transfer Steem Dollars separately from voting. If you go to your wallet and click on the little triangle next to the number of Steem Dollars you have you'll get a form like this.
You just need to put the person's account name in the To field and the amount in "Amount" and then you can add a little message in "memo" - if you're tipping someone for an article you might copy in a link to the one you thought was worth giving something for.
