So this morning while I’m setting up some notifications systems to get alerts quickly using a combination of applications I though it might be a good idea to share that little overview and tutorial as I’m setting it up, it’s basically a way to scan an RSS feed of jobs that appears on upwork and scan it for keywords for jobs that I can do and might be interested in.
The reason I do this is that you have more chance of getting the job if you are fast in replying and therefore the client get’s a response right away, chances are they might still be at their machine and get the notification or email and want to work with you, especially if what they need is important, I on average get the notification of the job appearing within about five minutes which if I’m on the desktop means I can jump straight in and dialog.
you’ll be needing to get an account on https://pushover.net and pay the $4.99 one time fee to get the api access key, the GitHub - cgrossde/Pullover: The unofficial multi-platform Pushover desktop client and then add the pushover service onto ifttt.com — I simple use the RSS feed match and send a pushover notification set of recipes, you might want to do something a little bit more snazzy than that.
Nothing worse than finding the perfect jobs you can do to see that 50 people have applied for it and probably overwhelmed the client — the downside to using my method is that you need to setup a search for each keywords as the ifttt recipe for pushover is fairly limited in it’s operation, it works well enough thou to get you those notifications before anyone else, I hope this helps you find your particular niche of work on upwork faster.
Happy Fridays! Have a great weekend! :)
