American troops in Somalia have killed 13 al-Shabab militants in airstrikes. Al-Shabab is Somalia's most dangerous terrorist group. The US African Command issued a statement on Thursday and said that this air attack was done in Lower Shabeellay.
He said that this attack is part of a major effort to support the Somalia army, which is trying to put pressure on terrorist networks and efforts to recruit its fighters in the area.
It was also stated in the statement that the terrorists linked to Al-Qaida are using this area for bombing in capital city Mogadishu. In December, 62 al-Shabab militants were killed in nearly half a dozen US air strikes. They were preparing to attack Somalia's military base.
This is the 10th American air strike this year in Somalia. It had conducted nearly 50 attacks in the Horn of Africa nation against Africa's most deadly Islamic extremist group Al-Shabab last year. On Thursday, 24 al-Shabab militants were killed in neighboring Hiran area in an air strike.
