In what would be one of the Biden administration's most extreme climate-change policies to yet, the Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday proposed ambitious new car pollution limits that may require electric vehicles to account for up to two-thirds of new cars sold in the US by 2032.

The tailpipe regulations would also reduce auto emissions that contribute to global warming by 50%. According to the EPA, transportation is responsible for close to 30% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the US.

The measures were dubbed "the strongest-ever federal pollution requirements for cars and trucks" by EPA Administrator Michael Regan.

On "CNN News Central" on Wednesday, Regan praised the planned regulations, saying they will lower consumer costs and reduce global warming pollution
