U.S. policy in the near Caribbean is inadequate to the challenge.

Americans (25% of whom can’t find Florida on a map) have no understanding that that close countries (Cuba, Haiti and Dominican Republic) each have over 11 million people and if they collapse, it’s almost as if a U.S. state has collapsed.

Yesterday in Old San Juan is saw and heard Haitians all over. They are coming in force.

The governor had been meeting the former (?) president of Haiti in weird all-night meetings and driving in the secret Forteleza entrance in his motorcade at sunrise through the footpath behind his $20 million a year mansion, as if he thinks he’s Batman going to his cave.

The plan is simple and an echo of the USA scam:

Allow massive numbers of Haitians to flood Puerto Rico and then be able to vote for the man who let them in.

Meanwhile, what is Anthony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State doing?

Trying to beg Kenya to send 1,000 police…as if that’s going to do anything. What a waste of time, and a waste of the Secretary of State position on a very ordinary person when an extremely talented person is called for.

Why not just have the Haitians flood PR?

Because PR is BANKRUPT and has been for years and already the murder solve rate in San Juan is a shocking 8%. This number is not shared with the public.

There is zero capacity in PR to pay for an angry hungry army of refugees who mostly speak neither Spanish nor English.

There ARE lots of job openings in restaurants, so if there could be language training and vocational assistance, they could go to work.

A smarter policy would be to give a short visa and if you can find legit work you can stay longer. Other countries have this policy.

If crime rises, and my guess is that it will, many more Puerto Ricans, who have all been U.S. citizens for over 100 years, will leave on a $20 flight accelerate the collapse that has seen PR’s population go from 5 million to 3 million at a loss of 100,000 per year net.
