US Congressmen Detained and Searched After Temple Mount Visit

I have heard of many people getting detained in Israel. Now a US congressman has been detained in Israel...

Breaking Israeli News says:

"Two US Congressman ascended the Temple Mount on Thursday to “experience the site in the same manner as the Jews do,” and most definitely, they succeeded. Their visit ended in with a demand from the Temple Mount’s Waqf (Islamic Religious Trust) for the Israeli Police to search both of the congressmen, Republican Scott Tipton of Colorado and Republican David McKinley of West Virginia.

“The congressman said they wanted to experience the Temple Mount just like the Jews experience it and not like tourists,” tour-guide and filmmaker, Avi Abelow explained to Breaking Israel News.

"Abelow, along with Rabbi Chaim Richman, the head of the Temple Institute, accompanied the congressmen who are on a week-long visit to the Jewish state that is being sponsored by the evangelical Christian organization, Proclaiming Justice to the Nations and a pro-Israel lobby group called, Yes to a Strong Israel."

Times of Israel says:

“The issue was quickly clarified and the congressman continued their visit according to plan,” police said in an English-language statement. “They were not detained or arrested.”

“In a video uploaded online, tour guide Avi Abelow said Scott Tipton of Colorado and David McKinley of West Virginia were stopped for taking a branch from an olive tree from the compound."

“He said the Waqf, a Jordan-based organization that administers the Temple Mount, had alerted police to the congressmen’s infraction, which is governed by a delicate status quo."

“Tipton and McKinley’s week-long visit to Israel was being hosted jointly hosted by Evangelical group Proclaiming Justice to the Nations and a pro-Israel group called Yes to a Strong Israel."
