Biden's 2 hour press-conference: Disaster?

There was no way I was going to watch 2 hours of Joe doing an press conference but at least from how it appeared he wasn't reading a teleprompter for once and it even looked as if the questions weren't scripted. The bar has been set so low by Biden that him simply making it through the whole thing is quite an accomplishment. I can't even imagine what they did in order to prepare him for this.

I watched a few of the highlights from the event, but I can't think of anything that I would rather not watch for 2 hours than his, or really any President talking for 2 hours. I'll go ahead and give a very rare bit of praise for Joe; he handled the questions a lot better than I thought he would and he managed to remain mostly coherent for the thing.

One question that kind of probably even made Joe a bit nervous was a statistic that one reporter brought up in about as respectful a manner as you can when dealing with information like this but the statement went something like this.

"A recent survey shows that 49% of respondents disagree with the statement "Joe Biden is mentally fit." In fact even a majority of Democrats strongly affirmed this statement."

Joe chuckled at the statement and then said something that despite listening to it several times the best I can tell is that he said "well let ya'll make the judgement zersazis correct" and yes, "zersazis" is what it sounds like he said.

When the reporter finished his question about Biden's competence Joe simply replied "I have no idea" and moved on. While that certainly isn't a great way to defend one's mental capacity it is certainly better than just spouting nonsense which is what a lot of people have come to expect of ol' Joe.

A lot of what he said was scripted of course, but I was actually impressed that he took questions at all and even allowed follow-ups. I don't know if we have just set the bar extremely low lately, but yeah, even though I don't agree with almost anything that the guy has to say I will give him credit for mostly at least being somewhat coherent during the entire 2 hours.

A couple of takeaways that I didn't like is that Joe keeps insisting that voting rules are somehow racist in certain parts of the USA because they insist that people be on the voting rolls and also have a valid form of ID. This is the same man that keeps pushing for all of us to be forced to have vax-passes to live our day-to-day lives.

I also found it quite amusing that while everyone was probably required to have face masks on, during a majority of the questions that I saw fielded by reporters, almost everyone was wearing those masks that it has been shown and even confirmed by the WHO and CDC are damn near useless as far as preventing Covid spread is concerned. Also, a bunch of the questions I saw presented were done with people who only had the masks over there mouth, not their nose.

Let's not give Joe too much credit though because there was a lot of bumbling that went on and a lot of those moments where Joe goes off on a tangent and by the time he is done talking he not only didn't answer the question that was asked, but it didn't really sound like he provided the answer to any question that could possibly exist.

If you look online about the media's assessment of the Q & A you aren't going to find very many people that are trying to suggest that Joe did wonderfully. Even ultra-liberal publications like the Washington Post and CNN admit "Biden had a more simplified, scripted message about his accomplishments, but also was less coherent at other moments."

He did make a couple of statements that annoyed a lot of people such as "I don't think I overpromised at all, if anything I have over-accomplished!" I can't really imagine what he might be referring to as an accomplishment in the past year. I certainly haven't noticed anything but then again, I'm just some dumb redneck.

There were a lot of awkward pauses where it would take ages for Joe to come up with the correct word to use and of course other times where he tripped over his own words and some sort of word-salad came out. This is nothing new from Biden though, we expect this and even though I do not like the guy I will say that he did a lot better than I had expected him to with this.

His poll numbers are terrible as far as job approval is concerned even worse than Trump's were. The liberal media isn't really even trying to defend him anymore but the good news for me and the people of my area at least, his Presidency hasn't really changed our lives a great deal. I can say this about basically all Presidents though.

So I'll answer my own question that was in the title of this. I don't think it was a disaster, but it certainly wasn't a glowing success either. If you watched the full two hours, and I don't think many people did, I commend you. Just watching the highlights nearly put me to sleep.

I was an excerpt from CNN GPS (don't want to massacre the host's name), where he said that Biden's accomplishments were "respectable."

I guess people are stupid...

well it was CNN. Even when they are being negative about Democrats - which is very rare - they do it in a positive spin way. Imagine all the comedy moments that could be had with just a single Biden interview? The shows that went after Trump relentlessly for 5 years and some continue to do so, haven't touched what really is potential comedy gold.
