This weapon is not experimental anymore, but it is mounted on a USS Ponce amphibious ship and ready to be fired into the target by Captain Christopher Wells and his crew.
Wells added this laser weapon excels over other types of weapons that are only accurate in one area only: land, sea, or air. LaWS can be used for targets everywhere.
One of the benefits of LaWS that can not be approached - let alone equaled - another weapon is its speed. The laser gun moves at the speed of light. In comparison, the speed is 50,000 times that of the newest inter-continental ballistic missile (ICBM) currently being prepared by the US military.
