Officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) came Wednesday with a search warrant to San Juan International Bank (Bsji), after allegedly violating the sanctions imposed by the United States against Nicolas Maduro and his officials.
Douglas Leff, director of the FBI in Puerto Rico, explained that they went to the bacnco to evaluate first hand an alleged case of money laundering that would include individuals and companies linked to Maduro's regime.
"Mainly entities, individuals and companies that have a connection with Maduro and move through Puerto Rico funds that the Federal Treasury has identified as connected to potential violations, corruption, drug trafficking, civil rights violations and terrorism," Leff said.
The official said the United States "is in a war against money laundering; and Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are the battlefields.
