Hiroshima and Nagasaki: American Use of the Atomic Bomb - Part 1

There have been many world changing events throughout the history of the world, one of them being the second world war. World War II began in 1939, when Germany invaded Poland, causing Great Britain and France to declare war on the Germans. Germany entered the war with Japan and Italy on its side. One year later, in 1940, Germany had taken France and controlled much of Europe. The United States (US) was brought into the war when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in a surprise air bombing. The war lasted for 4 years after the US joined, and with these four years came many new technologies. Some of these new technologies were things such as more efficient guns, tanks, planes and ships, and these technologies caused the deaths of over sixty million people. One notable technology developed during World War II was the atomic bomb They used two atomic bomb on Japan in Hiroshima and Nagasaki causing the Japanese to surrender unconditionally. The use of the atomic bombs in World War II brought a swift end to the war and established America as a major world power. The Japanese, both civilians and soldiers, were not willing to surrender because they still believed they would win the war. Furthermore, the US used the bomb because a direct invasion would have caused many more deaths for both sides. The final reason for the Unites States’ decision to drop the bomb was to showcase the power of it to other major powers, namely the Soviet Union (USSR).
