This is a quick review of a Labor Day Weekend when my son and his two children, my grandchildren met in New York City to spend a day at the U.S. Open Tennis Event. We arrived one day early and saw a few well known sites, like Times Square...always busy and very colorful!

You can't be in New York without doing some shopping...at Sak's of Fifth Avenue. My grand daughter had her eye on something special.....

The following day we took the subway near our hotel to the Arthur Ashe Stadium where the crowds were building rapidly...

The schedule for the day was highlighted inside the stadium on all 4 sides:

Before the action began, young children, many with disabilities, came onto the court to hit balls back and forth....

It was exciting to see two of the world's greatest tennis players competing in the U.S. Open. Roger Federer won his match with David Goffin....

...and Serena Williams won her match with Petra Matric...here is Serena on the big screen being interviewed after her victory....

I have many more great photos but many of them got "error messages" and were not uploaded.

It's a great experience to attend some part of the U.S. Open Tennis Matches at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The stadium is named after Arthur Ashe, winner of the 1968 inaugural US Open, the first in which professionals could compete. The original stadium design, completed in 1997, had not included a roof. After suffering successive years of event delays from inclement weather, a new lightweight retractable roof was completed in 2016. There are still several more days of tournament action, so Steemians continue watching as the excitement builds up!
