The lack of time management skills has been a major set back for many people. I remember when I was in these shoes, but thanks to activity diary I have overcome my fears. I know many people are battling to overcome procrastination, and lack of time management skills on a daily basis, some go as far as downloading trivial apps. Today, I’ll introduce you to an open source application called the activity diary. It has changed my life, and I believe it will change yours too.

What is activity diary?

The activity diary mobile application is an open source application developed by Raphael Mack. It was developed to help users in keeping track of their daily activities.

Apart from keeping track of our daily activities, there are a lot which could be achieved with the activity diary mobile application. It has lots of features such as a map, notes, statistic to name but a few. Currently, activity diary mobile application is made available for the Android platforms. Though there's no evidence that Its iOS or desktop version is being developed, I believe it will be done in the near future.

In this article, I'll be reviewing the features. I know they might be trivial to some users, but they are necessary. The first feature I'll be reviewing in this article is the application’s user interface. I believe the user interface of any application plays a major role in the success of that ap. Like me, to win my heart, the developers haplication in such such a way that it is attractive, and being attractive has to do with his color choices and arrangement of tabs.

Activity diary’s interface:

Honestly, the interface of any project, be it an application or a website plays a major role in the success of that application. If you're a developer, and you're , and you're struggling to gain an audience, you should work on your project's interface. I remember when I was learning how to create a website, my tutor told me that without proper knowledge of colors, I'd find it difficult to create a catchy website. You might think that what he said was not necessary, but believe me it is true. The first point of contact for any end-user is the user interface of a website or application he is using. Imagine opening a website and its tabs are overlaying on each other, you'll find it boring and eventually, you'll leave it at some point.

The user interface of the activity diary application is something that should be raved. I have used more than a hundred applications, and I must confess that the activity diary mobile application is developed with professional rigor. Its tabs are well organized, it doesn't lag, and the developers choice of colors are excellent. That being said, I wished there was an option to customize the whole interface of the application like in most applications that I have used. The developers didn't provide a means to do so though he made it possible to customize label colors while creating a label.

How I got started with the activity diary mobile application:

There are a lot of applications I have used that requires a lot of help in order to understand it. But using the activity diary mobile application for the first time was an easy task for me. The first thing I did was to download the activity diary mobile application from Google Play Store. After I installed it, I proceeded to launch it. As usual, I expected to be welcomed with an image followed by a writeup telling me how amazing the activity diary was. But to my greatest surprise, I wasn't. All I saw was an interface displaying all the already lined up activities for me. I guess the developers had to do things differently. Since my aim was to take control of my daily activities, I proceeded to create an activity. What I did was to tab on an existing activity which was created by default, then I changed the name. They are other ways to create an activity, you can either create a new activity or modify an existing one. There's even an option delete an activity which comes by default.

The thing I don't know is the number of activities that the activity diary mobile application can contain because currently, I have created over fifty activities. The purpose of creating up to fifty activities was to find the limit allowed for activities to be created within the activity diary mobile application. Normally, my daily activities are

  • Praying in the morning,
  • Swiping the house,
  • Bathing,
  • Taking breakfast,
  • Going to work,
  • Writing an article for steemhunt,
  • Closing from work,
  • Taking my self out,
  • Going back home,
  • Taking my bath,
  • Eating dinner,
  • Checking my emails and social media accounts,
  • Sleeping.

That's just thirteen activities. Some days might be different, but that's the basics.

Diary feature:

The activity diary mobile application will be meaningless without a diary feature within it. The diary feature is very useful, and it is where all activities are stored. You don't need to do anything as it is designed to save your activities automatically. If I wish to view the details of my activities, the diary feature is where I go to. The diary feature provides me with the starting and ending time of a particular activity which is cool.

Notes feature:

If you have used an activity mobile application before, you'll know that activities are written in form of notes. The note feature on the activity diary mobile application is not different from the ones in other activity tracking applications. Like me, the note feature is where I write my daily activities. The thing I love about the note feature is that you can add the location where the note was taken, and you can be very descriptive of your note.

Photo capture feature:

When there's a feature to include images, it makes the activity tracking application interesting. Imagine having an application which does not support image upload. I believe such activity tracking application will be boring. The activity diary mobile application supports image upload within a note, this makes it possible to upload any image I deem fit for my activities. Currently, my notes are with images, and I prefer it that way.

Conclusion:

I believe a lot can be achieved using the activity diary mobile application, it has changed my life within the time I have used it. It has numerous features which are very useful. Therefore, I believe you should give it a whirl.

Hey Abasifreke,

Thank you for your contribution. Activity diary is a fantastic project. I have used it, so I understand how good it is.

However, I think Activity diary has exciting features more than you provided. Although I haven’t used it for a while; I read a blog post about it a few months ago, and the publication shows they have improved the app. Considering this, I can say your post is not comprehensive enough. I’d urge you to dig deeper when reviewing any project. Also, the presentation of this post could be better. There are typos, misplaced of words, and many grammar issues.

Always dedicate much time to proofread your texts. It is not easy to write thousands of words without a minor issue, but it is possible.

I appreciate the information. I hope to receive better contributions from you.
