Suggestion To Add Backup and Restore From Google To Pedometer App

Components

Pedometer app is an health and fitness android app that records the number of steps you have taken, the achievements you have earned on Google and you can likewise set the goal steps you'll like to meet. All this is well and good however the backup feature in the app is a bit lacking in you in that you can only backup to phone and not to your google account. This hinders the ability to easily get your data online or in case your phone malfunctions , crashes or you have to format and reset your phone. Import/Restore button also experiences the same limitations as data can only be restored from phone storage.

Proposal

The suggestion to this problem is to add the ability to make direct backups to google accounts. The ability to schedule daily, weekly google backups should likewise be included so that users would be able to access their data online anytime and anywhere they want to. It should also allow the ability to import and export from google account directly in order to save time searching for backups from phone or second storage. There should be a way to schedule google backups such as daily, weekly and such so that user would not loose access to notes saved on the app. Restoring of data should follow the same process by using google accounts or e-mail to make restoring process easier.

Clicking the Export/Backup link will create a backup on the local storage as shown below

My suggestion is to improve the Export/Backup and Import/Restore link to include backup and restore to google accounts as shown below.

Benefits

Implementation of this suggestion will save users the stress doing back ups manually and importing and exporting backups will be done automatically without stress. Also, there won’t be too many backups left on the phone as with the current method only available right now. To conclude, it will grant users the ability to have their online backups linked to their Google account irrespective of the phone.
