Hi everyone Anidel here for another useful and simple tutorial for your perusal. Today I am going to show you how to play Playstation 3 games using the Open source emulator RPCS3. I will make the tutorial as easy and simple as possible so that newbies will be able to follow my instruction and enjoy this amazing emulator.
Introduction
The emulated console
Playstation 3 is the follow up console of Sony after their immensely popular and successful video game console Playstation 2. It's main competitors are Xbox 360 and Wii which constitutes the seventh generation video game consoles. Surprisingly Playstation 3 was not able to gain the same level of success of it predecessor as it only placed third in the total sales of the 7th generation console war as shown in the screenshot below:
Specification
OS: Proprietary Playstation software from Sony
CPU: 3.2 GHz Cell Broadband Engine
Memory: 256 MB XDR DRAM system and 256 MB GDDR3 video
Storage 2.5-inch SATA hard drive (different capacities depending on model)
The emulator
The emulator is RPCS3. It is an Open-source Playstation 3 Emulator for Windows and Linux. It is developed using the C++ programming language. It is still in Alpha and far from perfect although there are already about 968 playable games on the emulator.
Requirements
The absolute minimum hardware requirements this emulator are the following
CPU: An x64 CPU
GPU: An OpenGL 4.3 compliant graphics card
OS: 64-bit Windows 7/8/10, Linux, BSD
Software
- RPCS3 emulator
- Utilities (compressed extraction software and download manager)
Procedure
Step 1: Download all required files
The very first step we need to do is to download all pertinent files for the proper operation of the emulator. These are the emulator and the game rom image.
Step 2: Extract the file and folders in a common folder
We will extract the files and folders in a common folder so that we will be able to access easily. Like in most of my tutorial I like to put it in my Desktop. In this tutorial we will do the same and create a "RPCS3" folder where I will put the emulator and game rom image.
Step 3: Test run the emulator
After double clicking on the RPCS3 executable file we wll be presented by the main emulator window. Now we can test the emulator and load our game. Click on "File" in the menu and select "Boot game" as shown below
Then we select the "Game image folder." Remember we put all the pertinent files and folder in "RPCS3 folder" in desktop just navigate to that directory and select the folder as shown below
Once we click the "Select button" the emulator immediately loads the game. If it is the first time you are going to load the game there will be some compiling process. Just wait for it to finish until the game loads. Since this emulator is really new expect some errors but generally games are playable.
Congratulation! the game successfully loaded.
That is it for now guys I hope you find the tutorials useful. If you have concerns about the emulator please do not hesitate to ask me in the comments section below.
