What is EOS?
EOS is a blockchain utilizing "an operating system-like construct upon which applications can be built." It boasts that it has the ability to perform millions of transactions per second, gets rid of all transaction fees and supports an environment for decentralized application creation.
In simple terms that we can all understand quickly, this platform is quite similar to Ethereum, however, it is trying to position itself to be the go-to platform for creating decentralized autonomous organizations (on easy-mode) or as they call them decentralized autonomous communities. They seem to be aiming for the less advanced developer, allowing "anyone that can make a website" make a DAC on the EOS platform.
EOS is structured in the Cayman Islands for the purposes of being an "exempted" company and is named Block.one.
It is an opensource project, Block.one has released the EOSIO software with the open-source MIT license.

ForkTheCrypto Opinion

EOS might be a great thing for entry level and mid-level developers seeking to enter the profession of dApp development, or for people to mess around with DAO creation. However, their launch strategy is fairly old-school wall street style, get private money, limited access to the few and keep the rich and poor divided. ForkTheCrypto is a basic income, equality utopia supporter, so we don't give them any gold stars for that. ICO is fine and good, but while ICO is blockchain's greatest power, it is also blockchain's greatest weakness.
At ForkTheCrypto, we believe Bitcoin isn't the likely future, as far as we're concerned, its just not set up for true global adoption. But Bitcoin entered the world the right way, and whatever is the future needs to enter the way it did.
