Addition of progress bar to the Simple file manager

in utopian-io •  7 years ago  (edited)

Introduction

Like the name implies the Simple file manager is actually simple. It does the basic things a file manager should do which is to be able to browse files, copy, delete, move files from one location to the other.

Components

This proposal will have effect on movement of files and also copying of files.

Proposal

I am suggesting the addition of a progress bar to actions taking on the simple file manager. This should give you an idea of the status of the task you are performing on your device.

When you are moving a large file this is what you see below:

In the screenshot you only see ""moving" but you do not have an idea of the left for the task to be completed.

The progress bar should show the following:

.Percentage of the action taken

.The size of file taken and remaining.

.The path of the action taken, for example if you are moving a file from one folder to another the progress bar should show the originating folder and the destination.

.It will also show the number of files being moved.

Mockups / Examples

This is what the progress bar looks like in the file manager+. I actually moved a file from the download file to video with the simple file manager then I moved it back with the file manager+. This is what you have below:

The progress of the action is shown in the screenshots below:

Benefits

The benefits of a progress bar can not be overemphasized. It shows the origin of the file and also the destination of the file. It gives you an idea of how much time you have left or how much megabyte you have left.

This is very important for multitasking, it also enables you to limit some actions you might have taken against the capacity of your device.

Thank you and Godspeed.
