ACL's , Guvenlik icin kullaniliyor.Protokollerin filtrelenmesinde bir numaradir.Belli protokollerin belli bir paketlere gitmesini engelleye biliriz. Paketleri siniflandirmak icin kullanabiliriz.

Telnet baglantilarinin mesela hangi IP den yada hangi IP networkunden olacaginida ACL's ile belli ede biliyoruz.
TCP ve ICMP protokollerinden nasil gectigini , guvenligi saglamayi bu protokoller hakkinda bilgi mevcuttur.
