Open source software is incredible. Lot's of people use VLC media player which is open source, Chrome browser is based on the open source Chromium browser + closed Google bits.

In the creative side there are things like the Godot game engine and Blender for high quality 3D animation/design.

Kdenlive is a much more feature complete video editor but not as easy to use as Shotcut, and there's Krita for digital painting which is really nice to work with.

And of course there is Linux.

I love VLC media player, have been using it for years! Thanks for your suggestions I definitely will check out the software you mentioned.
