Hello everyone!
A week and a few days ago, @jesta announced an improvement on the vessel structure. Now for the new steemians who dont know what this is, the github description by aaroncox(@jesta) states that it is a lite wallet for the steemit blockchain that runs on your desktop.
As for me however, I do not know what the developers(s) mean by wallet, but it is way more than that. In the months that I have been using vessel, I have had so much fun and efficiency with it. I use it for almost all my interactions with the steemit blockchain, bar voting and posting.
Under the hood of vessel, is a big power house that allows you to undertake several operations that would otherwise be annoying to do (such as delegating SP).
So in today's version of ''easy living by destinysaid'' I bring to you, the uses and power that vessel holds.
The man with a thousand alts
Now this feature may was not available in the initial version of vessel, account creation was added to the vessel architecture in version 0.0.7.
I believe this to be the most handy function of vessel as t allows you to create accounts instantly at no cost to you except the 0.2 account creation fee prescribed by steemit inc, and the delegation you will need to give to the account upon creation.
See when you normally create an account on steemit, the information that you submit, your phone number, your email etc, is a sort of fee you pay upfront in exchange for the 0.2 steem that would otherwise be required. The account creation fee is instead paid by steemit itself, as well as a certain amount of SP delegated to you to get you started.
When you create an account from an external source however, your account creation fee is paid by someone else, and someone needs to delegate SP to you in order for your account to be active( seeing some words that this could change after hardfork 20)
So creating an account on vessel requires that the person doing the account creation have two things.
- 0.2 steem
- at least 30 SP free that can be delegated.
Step 1
The first step to account creation involves downloading and installing vessel if you do not have it. Vessel can be downloaded from the github page: https://github.com/aaroncox/vessel/releases/tag/v0.2.0
It is available for mac, windows and linux, which I must confess is a lot of work making it cross platform.
Step 2 : importing delegation account
The next step involves getting an account that has enough SP to delegate to others. I recommend an account with above 500 SP if you intend to bring in a lot of people. This account will also be the account that houses the account creation fee of 0.2.
So if you want to create accounts for 20 new steemians(just like we are in the process of doing for those in the steem delta campaign) you would need 0.2x20 steem, as well as about 600 SP for delegation.
here I am adding my personal account to vessel - @destinysaid
account added
Step 3: creating an account
1-2
After adding the delegating account to vessel, the next steps are pretty straight forward.
You will need to click on the account tab and navigate to create account on the top right corner of the application. This action brings up another menu that shows on the left, the requirements for creating a new account and on the right, the delegating account and the name of the new account.
the cost of account creation
Click *create account and you will be promptly carried to a page that displays the master password and keys of the new account you are about to create. It is at this point that you must calm down and make sure you have copied the password and keys for the account and stored safely before scrolling down and clicking ''confirmed - create account''.
Should you lose the password at this stage, you would only be able to access you account via your posting and active key which is available in the account-> account Auth tab on vessel.
save your passwords!!
If you're creating accounts for new comers, this is the part where you delete the accounts from your vessel so you do not have any control over the accounts.
Now this may not be as safe as steem invite, and it does require a lot of trust towards the end of the person doing the account creation. I help people create accounts and promptly delete their details from my laptop because I have no need for that. I do not intend to steal others password by helping them, as my primary goal is simply the success of Nigerians on the steemit platform.
If you require an account be created for you, I can use steem invite or this method depending on how busy I am in.
The account details should be given to the intended users and the account details removed from your device
deleting account details by clicking where to arrow points
Account steem power delegation through vessel
Now automatically after you have created an account using vessel, you delegate to it using your own personal Steem power. This is necessary as accounts on steemit without any tangible steem power are not able to perform certain transactions or events within the steemit ecosystem.
Anyone that has used minnow booster before knows that one is capable of delegating steem power to individuals using the steem connect website. However, I have found and indeed have been using vessel to delegate steem power to a number of accounts since the first time I started using it.
With vessel, SP delegation is super easy. The first steps involves having an account with enough SP within to give to others.
An exempt from the post above goes thus;
''With Hardfork 18 came a very interesting feature - the ability to Delegate Steem Power to another account. This has several benefits -
Creating accounts with a lower fee.
Donating your SP to curators you trust.
Combining your SP from different accounts to a single voting account.
For most of us, it'll be 2. and 3. which are interesting. It allows whales to directly delegate SP to trusted curators, hence spreading influence far and wide.''
Personally, after a week, I like to undelegate the SP i used for account creation for newbies as I believe that 1 week is enough to get them steempower to get started on steemit. I try to support them as much as possible in order to raise their SP by about 5 steem at least.
Going back to vessel, delegating of SP can be achieved by going to account -> SP delegation.
Once there, click the ''+'' sign and you would be carried to a page where you need to input the delegatee(the person who will receive the delegation) and the amount of SP to delegate(with a maximum of the total SP which you have).
In this example, I delegated 50 steem power to @infovore and that in turn, will add to the SP that he has
It is worth noting that in @liberosist post about * months ago, he said this;
> '' Currently, there's no easy frontend on Steemit.com or elsewhere to delegate SP. Probably isn't much of a priority for the Steemit team either, with Communities being the top focus right now. So, you'll either need to use a script or cli_wallet.''
It is good to see that 8 months later, there are so many easy ways to delegate SP to another individual, and a very easy way being right on your desktop.
SP delegation via vessel is a very quick and efficient way of working, especially when you want to support separate communities or different individuals. It is simple and does not take much of your time. All the account created as well as the delegation took less than 10 mins to set up, and that is one of the true powers of @vessel.
I am happy I got to talk about vessel, I had been putting it of for so long, this is an app that I have used since version 0.0.6, and its amazing how dependent on it I have become ever since I downloaded it.
This is part 1 of 3 of a series and a look into the powerhouse that is vessel, the wallet turned desktop pseudo frontend created by @jesta.
I would also like to use this opportunity to welcome 3 individuals that got into steemit via the publicity/meetup/ steemy Christmas mashup that we did in delta state Nigeria on the 20th of December 2017.
@lykan @sweetjenny @ micheal1990.
In the coming days, more individuals will be joining steemit via the delta state Nigeria society and I am really glad I got to do this. I was able to have a steemit presence in the place where I grew UP, and the people are slowly being integrated into the steemit system.
already 44 people strong
I am making each of my easy living posts a sort of repository, where my contents on easy living can be found, and read. I also will be sharing these posts on different social media platforms, as I believe that with these alone, a newbie can learn and understand the steemit society, before even signing up, and providing a soft lading for them so they do not get frustrated and leave.

Great article, thanks for your time. I have one question, as a new steemian.
What's the objective/gain/opportunity from having alt accounts?

The issue with alts is that you increase the workload on yourself, you need to seek votes twice as much, you need to post on two or more accounts per day, and you still may not get the votes you want. To me, there isnt much gain to using alts, except they have very defined purposes, like you wish to use them as a bot, or you wish to start a business or something of that nature.
As for gains, I do not see much except you are a whale and as such, can vote yourself to high heavens.

haha, most definitely not. I wish I was, I skipped computer science to go and study industrial chemistry.
Now with programmers everywhere, I really wish i studied it, but no regrets, life has a purpose for each person.
