Suggestion To Improve Writings on Welcome, FAQ and Other Official Pages.

in utopian-io •  7 years ago  (edited)

Yesterday I tried to refer steemit to other members and started a thread on a Facebook group; mostly with bloggers and freelancers. Some of them must have had a look. They replied me back telling the site doesn't have a well-written introduction and FAQ pages and it's not a good sign of trust.
steemit welcome page

People who are careless on such things on such professional pages won't have a good reflection to the users/visitors, this also adds doubts on their seriousness toward their goal and intention.

I never had a look at welcome page/faq page before. But after getting such compliments from them I went to the welcome page. And I also feel like they are not much compelling as they should be.

I also found some silly grammatical/punctual mistakes, which I am sharing here.

I think It should have been attention-grabbing.

I think there should be log in since it's a verb and login is a Noun
On your profile?-not sure, I have always seen it that way.

Calamities??

By??

I am not judging here anything, just tried to point out some issues complained from others.Which could be useful growing the platform.

I found more fluff words which are not really necessary.

I didn't find it appropriate to screenshot and post everything here. Hopefully this much will help to understand what I'm trying to say.

Well, I am not a good writer neither English is my first language. So I could be wrong on these points.
I also noticed that there are too much use of passive voice, expletive construction words, most of the sentences are in first and second person. From what I've learnt those are not good practice for formal/professional writing too and is a key for gaining trust and authority from the users and visitors.

How could it be Beneficial?

  1. Well, welcome /introduction and FAQ are some important pages users always look for and it is not a Good reflection of an organization /company or the people in leadership to have poorly written English on such pages.

  2. Quality writing can win trust from users/visitors and investors.Bad writing simply can damage any business.

  3. We cannot attract new users/ investors if we cannot provide a compelling introduction and Q/A pages. So this is mandatory.

Please note that these are my personal thoughts though. You are always welcome to write your views. The comment box is there for a reason.

Thank you!

Hello & Cheers!! I'm a content detection and information bot. You are receiving this reply because a short link or links have been detected in your post/comment. The purpose of this message is to inform your readers and yourself about the use of and dangers of short links.

To the readers of the post: Short links are provided by url shortening services. The short links they provide can be useful in some cases. Generally their use is benign. But as with all useful tools there are dangers. Short links can be used to hide all sorts of things. Quite frequently they are used to hide referral links for instance. While not dangerous this can be deceptive. They can also be used to hide dangerous links such as links to phishing sites, sites loaded with malware, scam sites, etc. You should always be extremely cautious before clicking on one. If you don't know and trust the poster don't click. Even if you do you should still be cautious and wary of any site you are sent to. It's always better to visit the site directly and not through a short link.

To the author of the post: While short links may be useful on some sites they are not needed on steemit. You can use markdown to format your links such as this link to steemit. It's as simple as [steemit](https://steemit.com) Unlike short links this allows the reader to see where they are going by simply hovering over the link before they click on it.

This message was created by a bot. It is part of the ongoing fight against spam and phishing attacks on steemit. If you did not use short links in your post and feel you have received this message in error you can contact @fubar-bdhr on discord or @fubar.bdhr on steemit chat to report the issue.
