It's been a month since my last update. I'm still here and busy in the background.
Getting things done! And that's between my day job, supporting our Utopian VIPs and of course, family.
Outline
- Tasks completed from December 2018 to January 10, 2019. Also discuss some challenges for each task.
- Summary
Accomplishments
Audit Guidelines
I completed the VIP Guidelines around the 20th of November. The next important task is establishing the Audit Guidelines.

It took considerable amount of research and thoughtful reasoning to complete this.
For any type of audit, the factors or audit questions should be objective. There should be a measurable metric.
It's easy to be idealistic when forming questions. How should Utopian evaluate a project to continue supporting or not? Rephrasing the questions to measurable, objective and a real-world version is challenging.
For example. Utopian wants to support active projects. How do you quantify the word active? Github commits within a month? Utopian blog/dev updates within a month? Should it be variable?
What parameters do you think would be equitable for both parties?
Figure1: Some of the audit questions. Yes, VIPs should expect to hear from me asking for a project roadmap
The completed audit questions are measurable enough. I'm hoping the first round of my audit should shed some light on how we can improve it.
Comprehensive VIP List
With any start up or project, you just want to get things done. Being organized can quickly become a difficulty. My next task is cut out for me.
We needed a complete list of our VIPO Club. But my definition of complete list is a result of my pickiness. You can call it OCD. But I call it comprehensive.
Figure2: Column headers for VIP details
There's only 9 columns of information for this comprehensive list. I'm sure there's more columns coming up as I progress in this role.
I tracked all VIPO-related Utopian or project announcement. After reading them, I have a general idea of what the project is about. I can also get most of the details I need for each project.
I tracked down contact details for each project member. Since there are different messaging platforms, my address book is unusually long. For each member, I may have:
- preferred direct messaging (Discord/Slack etc)
- social network (Steemit/Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn etc)
- email address

This was time consuming but it's done. I knocked this out of the park.
Different Task Requests
EFTG
The European Commission Blockchain Competence Center (BLKCC) has been very busy lately. We have some very driven gentlemen for this project (@sorin.cristescu, @christophe51, @smartiot).
It has been a pleasure working with them. This project is a very exciting one about displaying the power of STEEM blockchain. Just 2 days ago, I worked on another task request. Watch out for it and see if you can help out.
CoinGecko
Coingecko's CryptoExchange project is a very good example of a super-utility-tool.
@coingecko is one of the leading cryptocurrency data aggregators. It is only natural that they strive to give you the best experience. By retrieving market data from 240+ cryptocurrency exchanges.
We don't have that many #ruby contributors here yet. This proved to be a challenge in the beginning. With the help of @bobinson, we have a few Ruby developers who reached out.
I also went to the extent of introducing this project to @inertia.
If you have any Ruby contacts, would you help us? Would they like to take on one of the 240+ crypto exchange websocket APIs? Let @CoinGecko know. Or you can ping me too!
Possible Utopian Cooperation with Communities
Utopian incentivizes Open Source contributions. We encourage cooperation with groups supporting Open Source.
We are working on how we can generate a healthy pool of quality contributors.
I'm in communication with a social media platform on a different blockchain. Their project uses Symfony, a PHP web app framework. We will see where it will lead us.
Communicating with different projects on and off Steem is an ongoing process. With this task, I realized how my role could possibly transform.
I started thinking how I can be more visible on GitHub, StackOverflow and other platforms. It's the first step in establishing credibility. Which would then prove helpful when I need to ask extra help or contributions to a certain project.
Audit Projects
And the last item for my update: project audit.
This is currently my focus. I had to ask @Suesa to extend the due date on this one.
I got sick towards the end of 2018 and haven't completely recovered. My migraine is popping here and there. My dry cough is still there, making it a little tough for me.
But as they say:
The show must go on
Audit here I come.
Summary
I have been quiet on Steem but my keyboard is still clacking away. Completed guidelines, task requests, research, status updates, calls and meetings.
Now you have an idea what I've been up to.
Utopian 2019 is just starting. There's a lot going on in the background.
I would like to thank all our Utopian contributors, supporters, moderators, community managers... every Utopian.
You are all the face of Utopian while we strive hard to work in the background. Let's work together for a fruitful 2019.
Firstly, I appreciate the effort put in writing this update. Great job! I can see a lot has been happening behind the scene as you have said.
About the criteria set for projects to determine how active they are, The questions/metrics set looks good. Every good project should have a road map for users to know what to expect next in the development and other stuff. But I think you could make the answers to be 4 for each question.
Again, thank you, and I wish you a complete recovery.
Please note that while the CM hasn't changed the footer, I am not scoring #iamutopian posts based on the questionnaire. They have their own metric, and that will be the case until we go live with the new guidelines and new questionnaire, which will be comprehensive enough to reflect these types of posts.
