We will rewind the clock a little bit, back to 2009, when I started performing as a DJ. The man I was training under was not the most tech savvy individual, therefore, I didn't get to use my Software Engineering studies in my new venture very much until later. Fast forward about three and a half years and I was going at it alone. We revamped the name and brand, and I started acquiring the hard and software needed to really start developing my own sound. Enter Audacity...
A great application in the open source world for beginner DJ's and producers looking to get started editing and building quality audio files, tracks, and recordings. I used it mostly for recording my live sets to begin with, but it was time to make a mash-up. Start defining a sound or style.
After plenty of self training with the features, and a few awesome blog posts, I had pulled together all the tools I needed to build the mash-up. Now I hadn't bought into Mixed In Key yet so I was using my own ear to do the key selection and pitch bending. I figured I would just scoop up stems that I had in my library already, search for something a little new at the time, and find some pieces I could use to smash together, just what kinda popped out first. After a little bit, I was sitting with a channel for each filled with: one, the a'cappella of Earth, Wind, & Fire's new track at the time (yes, new in 2013 from E.W.F.) "My Promise," two, the a'cappella of "Jack" by Breach, third, the instrumental of the same song, and fourth, the instrumental of the official remix of Ke$ha's "Crazy." I know, but for whatever reason, it stuck out and the pieces were working together. So, after hours of tweaking and using all the great tools in Audacity, "Jack My Promise" a mash-up by Mental Extract was born! Produced and mastered for FREE! (Outside of DJ subscriptions I already used)
I still enjoy going back and listening to it (like I just did while writing this), enjoyin' the groove, and my work. I don't do a lot of remix and mash-up work currently but plan to get back at it along with playing my sax and producing originals. I'll need to pull out Audacity to do some recording, agian. Well, I appreciate your time and reading my little shout out to one of the coolest programs in the Open Source world. I might be a little biased. Sure can't beat Steemit as a whole though. Anyways, thanks again, cheers, and happy steeming!

Well thank you very much! Honestly, I would use Audacity, but if you want to invest money, Ableton Live. Hope it helps, and will do!

Nice dude, I gotta check out Audacity again just for the hell of it lol. It's been like 8 years or so. It's still free right?

Oh yeah brother! Open source! Same crowd-sourced programming base that Steemit is being built and edited with now :)
