I'm a member of the Formula Student team Eleven-O-Six Racing Team at the university Helmut-Schmidt-Universität/Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg. We are a small team and would like to take off with a new and innovativ car in the season 2018/2019.
Therefore I would like to construct a starter battery made of 16 LiFePo4 cells with a selfmade battery management with the product of the Kickstarter campaign initated by VRUZEND. The first picture shows all the parts I get for funding their Kickstarter project.
The following image shows the connection to the battery.
With the next image I show you the top site of the terminal cap. Through the screwed bolt your are able to connect many batteries with metal sheets.
With Fusion 360 from Autodesk I redesigned the terminal caps for VRUZEND and build my desired battery pack as shown in the next picture.
Afterwards I assembled the presented parts and LiFePo4 cells APR18650M1-A from A123 Systems. The assembled battery pack looks very similar to the modeled one.
In a further step I would like to build a battery management system for this battery pack. This one should include the options of over- and undervoltage protection and monitoring as well as temperature and current monitoring. An Arduino Nano should be the control part.
I would like to get your suggestions for my current and future developments. I will share the whole development https://github.com/sodom89/starter-battery.
