The Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra, Indonesia has been erupted. The activated volcano which is located in Karo district was erupting again after last December 2017.
It displaced tens of thousands as it sent hot gasses and debris flows to areas. The biggest eruption that occurred on February 19, 2018 was launched vaulted smoke and ashated 25,000 feet into the water.
Actually I have a little story when I was still in North Sumatera on Saturday, February, 17 2018. I was there two days before the eruption happened.
At that time I was on my way from Medan to Kutacane, Southeast Aceh Regency. I went with two colleagues to survey the Islamic Center building there. I passed the Karo Regency where Mount Sinabung is located. While passing there, the distance between Medan-Kutacane national road about 40 kilometers more. Nonetheless, Mount Sinabung still looks towering.
I immediately took advantage of this moment to take photos of Mount Sinabung condition. At that time I saw some smoke rising at some point to the west of the mountain peak. The entire surface of the mountain was bare and whitened by the larvae and the ash rain that covered the mountain slopes. Even during the eruption, the volcanic ash also spread to the provinces of Aceh and West Sumatra.
Here are some photos I managed to take on Saturday, February 17, 2018.
