The blockchain in itself lacks the features to facilitate true community building. It only provides a base to build those on top. It is my hope that in 2019 we'll see Utopian and other Steem projects doing just that - using the blockchain as a foundation to build something that won't require a Discord, slack and a dozen of other services to truly engage.
