How to make a GRAPHIC CONTRIBUTION at utopian.io

in utopian-io •  7 years ago  (edited)

One of the interests of @wearecodex team is to help improve the quality of the contibutions that are submitted to utopian.io day by day.

We know @utopian needs to attrack more profesional designers and we are sure there are many out there but they just don't know how to contribute, or they don't even know utopian exists.

That is why we decided to create this guide, we hope it helps a little.

1

Start by login in to utopian.io using your STEEM creedentials (the same you use to login to steemit.com, busy.org, etc.)

Click on Log In

Click on CONTINUE

Fill the form and click SIGN IN

You are now logged in:

Create a contribution

Click in the button + Contribution in the top right corner or New Contribution in the left sidebar.

Select GRAPHICS.

Read the rules very carefully.

  • We reserve the right to reject a graphic contribution if we believe the work is not enough to be rewarded.
  • You must provide samples of your creations directly on this post and include public links to the full design.
  • This category is meant only for graphics/videos/motion graphics you have realised for an Open Source project.
  • You must include every possible detail to verify the work done.
  • You must provide the editable files, as PSD and similar source files. Flatten and rasterized layers are not editable.
  • If you are providing a logo, you should also provide the different logo variations in terms of sizes and colors and also compare the new logo with the previous one, when applicable.
  • Logo designs must be in a vector format unless the project owner specifies a different format.
  • T-shirts and merchandising in general are not welcome unless explicitly requested by the project owner.
  • Never post about graphics you have already shared before.
  • Not respecting the rules will either give you lower votes or your contribution won't be accepted.

Always read them because they are updated time to time in order to get better contributions.

Click on I understand. Proceed

Filling the contribution form

We will explain only the tricky parts.

Repository

You need to make sure the project you are contributing to is open source by reading their licence, also in their webpage look for their official Github repository.

Type the repository and hit enter

Sometimes unnoficial or mirror repositories appear, you must choose the right one. Also make sure the latest commit is not older than one year.

Adding the proper tags

Write the tags separated by a space

Consider you can only add up to 4 tags. The first one is reserved to utopian-io and you don't need to write it.

Select how you want to be rewarded

And click POST.

Wait for a moderator to review your contribution

In utopian.io you need your contribution to be approved. So you just have to wait like 24-48hr so a moderator sees your contribution and approve it if everything is fine.

In case it needs some improvement the moderator will tell you. Make sure to read carefully and follow their instructions.

Once your contribution has been approved, it will be upvoted on the next round the utopian bot gets to work. The % of the utopian bot upvote will vary depending on some factors like: the number of contributions it will upvote that day for the category and the number of upvotes it has before it upvotes; it also considers which upvotes come from bots or false accounts.

Tips

  • If you are going to contribute with a logo, look for projects that don't have one or theirs is bad. And of course make a better one, make it awesome!
  • After making your contribution, send a message to the project owner. You can use the ISSUES tab in their github. So, If they like your job, they could get the logo in their project :) win-win.
  • Never contribute only to get an upvote from utopian bot. Always do it to add value to the open-source movement!

You're welcome :)
(what is kudos?)

It means congratulations.

Excelente tutorial Fabi!!, lo has explicado super bien, me acordé de cuando lo hice de conejillos de india, jajajaja xD, muy bueno!! :D
Te mando un fuerte abrazo!! ;)

you have the power ,, titi tiri tiri ri , you have the power .. :)

Your contribution cannot be approved because it does not follow the Utopian Rules.

Your contribution is far too trivial.

You can contact us on Discord.

Oh! :( this is so sad. I wrote this tutorial because a friend felt afraid of even login in with utopian, I also heard people being freaked out with the repository input; and thinking about the designers that don't know about utopian.io and even those without account yet.

That's why I thought this was necessary and put the best effort to make it clear for them.

I hope you can reconsider, please :)

Hey hi! Please ...

A moderator should always give at least one opportunity to fix/edit a post, and never reject and hide it on the first sight.

:) how can I make this post less trivial according to your point of view?

Hey @wearcodex! Your tutorial does not really go beyond the information that is already there, in the UI and in the rules. You tried to go a step further with your last paragraphs (4) but this is still very very basic. I'm not that much into tutorials but I'm pretty sure that's part of the issue.
