My quiet spot - Korcula, Croatia

in vacation •  8 years ago  (edited)

If you don't have it, you should find one. A place to lay low. A place to recharge. This is mine. Blue as it can be. A little, secluded, quiet bay on the southern side of the island of Korcula. It’s called Prizba.

My favorite bench. So many books were read here, so many j’s lit. Make sure to bring a pillow and hours might go by without you realizing it. Just enjoy the view and jump in the water once in a while. If you got the right tools for it, try catching an octopus. Loads of them are hiding nearby.

Those islands aren’t that far away. Jump in and start swimming, in 10 minutes you will reach them. Up for a race?

5 a.m. local time. Whether it was a long night out or an early one in bed and you just woke up, sit on the patio and soak up the sunrise that’s coming.

A famous writer from our neck of the woods once wrote - “It’s funny how little we need to feel happy, and even funnier how often we are missing exactly that little thing”. There is not much to do here, but you never notice. It’s a place to wind down the mind , make it rest for a few days, and it does its job perfectly.

As a kid, I would spend hours on this “molić”, little pier. Figuring out all the possible and impossible ways one could jump into the water.

It never was easy to reach, and not many people knew about the little town. So there never were many toursits, mostly locals. Croatia is growing in popularity recently and I guess it had to reach Prizba as well. This is actually the most people I’ve ever seen on that beach.

Pink clouds, boats cooling of, waiting for new journeys awaiting them tomorrow. The sea relaxed, its surface smooth and calm. Even it comes here to chill, not do much.

The beach after everyone left. It might get a few visitors at night, the local kids are at that age when alchohol is being discovered and here is where they come to share the experience. Most of them locals, they know how to behave - whole time I was there, not one bottle had been left on the beach in the morning.

Sadly, it’s time to leave, but at least I’m doing it in style. Hydroplane routes were established in the last couple of years. They’re not the cheapest of rides, but you need to do it at least once. The flight from Vela Luka, Korcula to Split, Croatia’s main port, takes about 20 minutes. You get so caught up in the beauty that you forget to take enough pictures. Well, I guess now I’ll just have to do it again.
