St. Valentine; his history and mystery
Saint Valentine's day is observed on February 14th each year. It is celebrated all over the world. The popular festival of love and romance traces back its origin to ancient Rome. There are varying ideas about it but the real and confirmed origin of Valentine's day is unknown, however there are many legends and stories that relate to its origin. the up most common legendary story is that of Saint Valentius, who was a priest in Rome during the 3rd century and at that time rules by emperor Claudius II. It is said that Valentinus was executed because he disobeyed an order of the emperor. Claudius is said to have engaged Rome into several bloody battles, to strengthen his army, the emperor continuously needed to recruit soldiers. However, he found that not many countrymen were keen or willing to join the army because of their family concerns.
So in order to strengthen the army and serve the battles Claudius cancelled all the marriages out, and convinced the males to not have any intimate or emotional attachment with females. The emperor thought that men without wives and family are better soldiers, as such he made marriage an illegal thing. Saint Valentine was opposed to his inhuman military doctrine and conducted secret marriage ceremonies for lovers. When emperor came to know of his such a dare practices he ordered that Valentinus to be killed.
Since then, Saint Valentinus became the symbol of love and the angel that unite lovers.
