Looking to celebrate Valentine's Day without breaking the bank? Here are a few ideas that can show your sweetie that your love comes from the heart and not the wallet.
Put It In Writing
Writing and note-giving has become a lost art. My favorite "gifts" from my father, now deceased, are hundreds of notes that he wrote to me throughout the years. Telling someone you love what you love about them or favorite memories that you spent together, is a gift they will keep and treasure always.
Extra Love: Hide these notes where your love will find them throughout the day. You can put one in their lunch bag, taped to the steering wheel of the car, on the mirror in the bathroom....
Say It In Film
Take some of your favorite pictures and videos and put them together in a video. With free online video creation software like HitFilm, creation is fun and easy!
Say It With....Plants!
While flowers are lovely, they do not last very long. Consider a potted plant. Years ago, a good friend took a clipping from one of his plants that I had always admired and started a plant for me. I loved it and now, 20 years later, it is a full and beautiful addition to my home.
Personal DIY Gift Basket
This is one of my favorite ideas, because it can be as unique as you and your sweetheart are. Does your love like books? Create a gift basket of some of her favorite authors and some specialty teas or coffees. Car buff? Create a basket of car magazines and perhaps a gift car to the local auto store. The sky is the limit on personalized gift baskets. While this less likely to be a free option, with some creativity, it can be done inexpensively.
Go Retro
Create a day that is completely free of technology. Turn off your phone, computer and TV and spend the day together without any distractions.
Tried and True Coupon Book
My children used to make coupon books for me every year for Mother's Day. I loved them! You can do something similar for the love of your life. Some ideas to include: washing the car or dishes, making dinner, grocery shopping, back rub, or other special things that you know they enjoy.
Many of these ideas can spill over past Valentine's Day. It is always a good day to show those who make every day special, how much you love and appreciate them!
Happy Valentine's Day!
