I’m SO excited to share some amazing DIY bath bombs valentines
Supplies:
8 oz. baking soda (1 cup)
4 oz. Citric Acid
(1/2 cup)
4 oz. corn starch (3/4 cup)
4 oz. Epsom salts (1/2 cup)
1 Tbsp. water
Essential Oils
or Fragrance oil
(like these ones that are safe to use in soaps, bath bombs, etc.)
2 1/2 Tbsp. oil (fractionated coconut oil, almond oil, and other light oils work great)
Food coloring (just a few drops)
Bath bomb molds
(this 4-pack is perfect) or clear plastic ornaments
Directions:
Step 1. Mix the dry ingredients together really well in a glass or plastic mixing bowl (avoid using metal as it can cause a reaction). A wire whisk worked perfectly for mixing.
Step 2. Mix the wet ingredients together. I tried using a spoon but the oil and water didn’t mix very well, so I found that putting the mixture in a small plastic container with a lid and shaking vigorously mixed it all much better.
- For my first batch, I used coconut oil and about 25 drops of a soap fragrance oil that I bought a couple of years ago to make soap. The bath bomb was really fragrant and smelled great.
For my second batch, I used coconut oil and some about 10 drops of citrus doTerra essential oil. These bath bombs were really fragrant and smelled great too. If you use essential oils from the health food store that aren’t quite as strong as doTerra or Young Living oils, then you’ll need to use about 25-30 drops of fragrance.
Making bath bombs that have lots of color look really great in bath bomb form, but can leave a ring in your tub if you go too crazy with it. Try and use just a few drops of food coloring to avoid this. Not that I learned this from experience or anything. 😉
Step 3. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients a spoonful at a time, thoroughly mixing it in before adding more. If you add too much liquid the mixture starts to react, which you don’t want.
Step 4. Press the mixture down into a mold. You can either use bath bomb molds or clear plastic round ornaments. Both work just fine, it’s just a matter of preference and which size you want your bath bombs to be. I used the clear plastic ornaments.
Press the mixture firmly down, so it’s packed tightly to form the bath bomb. Fill both sides tightly (overfilling slightly), then pressing both sides together. I twisted a tiny bit to make sure both sides were pressed well together, and then very carefully released the top of the mold.
Leave the bottom of the mold on the bath bomb to dry overnight. I placed my bath bombs into measuring cups to keep them nice and steady til morning.
Step 5. When it’s time to release the bath bombs the next day, carefully and very gently lift the mold half off. It may take a little maneuvering, just be careful so it doesn’t break. If you do happen to break one, then you have an excuse to take a nice long hot bath and try these bath bombs for yourself, right?
