Somewhere I decided to prefer lasting value over the value associated with a bargain. A quality auto was worth more than cheaper transportation. I still own cooking utensils and appliances I obtained over 40 years ago. Their age represents their enduring value.
I am older now and have less value in lasting value.
Inflation scares me since it heartlessly destroys purchasing power. I see greater value in the transaction functionality of an asset. What is the future value of value?
In history this points clearly to silver. But the millions of people who only know the value of digital wealth will prove silver to be a longer term value than I will ever find beneficial.
Since I have zero trust in fiat currency created by governments and EVIL bankers, I look to crypto currency as the only alternative to being of value in the future.
I have a stash of food. I have a stash of silver. These are my foundational basics of short term value stability. I now have chosen Steem as my horse in the crypto race. I am quite uncomfortable with having all my value riding on a single horse, but my practical options are limited. Spreading my puny resources across the field might result in a winner, but again, the long term value would be gone. I am putting all my eggs in one basket... thereby ignoring ancient wisdom.
Hence, I Steem On.
There are many gambles in life. This seems like a big one, but I'm betting my grandchildren will never know!

Interesting post that seems to address the paradox of lastingness vs. fleetingness from the perspective of wisdom. There is definitely risk inherent to life, that we try to mitigate out of caution, the older we get. So I think we gravitate towards systems that seem to be more stable, even when they may not have the highest returns. For me, Litecoin is one of these. Steemit is another, though only time will tell in both cases.

I like the question you bring up ; What is the future value of value - knowing minimum wage is going up and anyone that can afford it is replacing their workers with robots ( like McDonalds trying to fight the $15 minimum wage ), and anyone who cant afford it will be laying people off, costs to operate will be expensive - i can see all of this about to happen, and i believe you are doing exactly the right thing sir ; i only wish i was as prepared as you are with all of this happening .
