Good place as any to start...

in van •  7 years ago  (edited)

After 18 years living in a condo, raising my 2 daughters as a single mother, my landlord decided to sell. This was a bit of news that stressed me to the core but now I'm taking it as a blessing. I live in the Silicon Valley and rent is not cheap here. I decided I didn't want to hand over my paychecks to live in a one bedroom studio, saving nothing and thus, trapped as a renter for the rest of my life. I had a few months to acclimate to the idea of what will eventually be van life but for now is the back of my jeep life. I started watching tons and tons of van conversion videos and after each video, I became more and more excited to take the step out of a sticks and bricks dwelling. So it's been 3 weeks, it's not exactly comfortable and I'm still saving for my van. I had grand ideas of being very active after work, going to the library, taking some classes, long walks down trails in the areas but in reality, I mostly just want to chill so end up parking somewhere nearby work and fiddling around on my phone until it's time to lay down for the night. On the weekends, I've headed to my sisters in Niles Canyon and will most likely continue to do so until I get my van. Maybe once I'm thoroughly used to life outside a built structure, I'll be more inclined to participate in after work activities as I'd first envisioned but for now, I'm hyper focused on saving for a van and how I'm going to build it out. More later....IMG_0832.JPG

I understand how you feel. When I started this life style it took a couple of months to get comfortable. Mostly because the stuff I thought I needed turns out to just be in the way but I think the hardest was trying to get used to not hearing the noise pollution from town. I think my ears rang for the first two days form the peace and quiet
