For today's weed news we go to the great province of British Columbia, Canada.
The Vancouver Police Department just published a brand new set of cannabis regulations for their officers, only weeks before the unprecedented rollout of Canada's legalized recreational cannabis.
This is one of the first Canadian police departments to release regulations specifically addressing cannabis use among members of their force. But if this is any indication of how Canadian police are going to be treating weed use from October 17th on out, things are looking pretty damn sweet for Canadian cops who themselves enjoy getting a little toasty.
Once sales of recreational pot begin, the Vancouver Police Department is officially going to allow their officers to consume cannabis at their own discretion the same way that they consume alcoholic beverages!
During an interview with the Vancover Sun, Constable Jason Doucette said that "Training around the VPD's impairment at the workplace policy will contain information on the latest research on the use of cannabis... We want to provide our officers with the latest information so they can make an informed decision when it comes to cannabis use and being fit for duty.
Canada's national police force, known as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are getting ready to put out their own cannabis use regulations for officers nationwide, and early reports are hinting at a very similar approach as the one in Vancouver.
Hopefully, the United States will take notice of how Canadian police is approaching this issue, and reevaluate their own standards and practices. In the States, even in those where recreational marijuana is being sold legally, police officers are prohibited from cannabis use because of the ongoing Federal prohibition on the plant.
If you ask me, letting officers who are off duty use cannabis once it is legalized is the only logical way to do it. If it's legal then it's legal, period.
