Vape chronicles Episode #3 Clean those nasty coils. No need to throw away money when you don't have to

in vaping •  8 years ago

Do you like building coils or using fancy already made ones you bought online or in a shop for 10-50 bucks a set? Do you cry when they get all gummed up and don't perform like they used to in a month? Does the thought of rebuilding or shelling out more cash makes you want to kick a puppy? Well do I have the solution for you. Clean them properly and you can get months out of them. The ones used in this tutorial have been in this RDA for 4 months. The best part is that its supper easy and cheap to do.

OK ready? grab these items

Soap
Stainless steel brush Grab this at any hardware store dirt cheap. I got mine for a dollar.
Sink

Thats it. That is all you need

Step #1 Look at those nasty things and cry a little.

Step #2 Rip that cotton out and rinse it off under hot water. I leave it on the mod the entire process. just make sure to aim it down into the water to avoid getting the mod itself wet. Electronics+Water=Bad If you do get the mod wet just dry it off real quick.

Step #3 Dry burn them coils. This part you need to take some caution on not to get the mod too hot. Thinner wires you also have to be cautious with so you dont melt the leads. I am using fussed clapton wire so thats not a issue. Do this about 4-5 times and running them under the hot water every time you get them red hot.

Already starting to look better huh? OK let's keep going.

Step #4 Grab the brush and brush them off. You will find brushing one direction will work and one way will try to pull the coils so just go the direction that does not pull on the coils. Rinse them off in between brushing. Make sure to hit them from all sides as good as possible.

Step #5 Grab the soap. I used regular dawn. You don't want something too scented because you will have to rinse it off and get it out of the coils lol. Lather them up good and give them a good brushing . After the brushing rinse them off really good and keep dry burning them until the soap is washed out.

That's it your coils should look good as new.

You are now ready to wick and return to vaping as intended.

Great tips! I generally just dry-fire mine, so I'll have to try the scrub method!

@quantumanomaly thanks. I used to just dry fire mine until I learned about the water trick. Originally it was just dunk the red hot coils in a bowl and that works too but from there I started playing with more ideas and came to find this works the best

Why didn't you tell me this like two months ago? J/k you know how I roll. #chocolatecakebuild

Excellent Tips!

@jessamynorchard every time you rewick that limitless you just get the obligatory shaking of the head from me lol

@dburklen yeah but you never mentioned wire brushes. My mind is honestly blown and I feel like a complete ding for not thinking of doing this.
