Vaping is still a relatively new technology, and although limited data is available, a recent study suggested that the risk of cancer from vaping was approximately 1% of that posed by smoking.

For many of us, another benefit of Vaping is cost. But to make the best savings, you really need to make your own E-Juice!

• In the UK, 20 cigarettes cost about $10.57 USD, smoking 20 a day will cost $3,858.05 per year!

• 10ml of ready made e-cigarette liquid costs about $5.94 USD, vaping 10ml (0.33814 Fl Oz) per days costs $2,168.10 per year.

• Materials to make 5 litres (169.0701 Fl Oz) of e-Juice (providing 13.69 ml or 0.4629 Fl Oz per day for a year) costs just $130.11 USD for the whole year!

Making your own e-Juice is easier than you might think, for a years supply of juice, you will need the following:

  1. 250ml mixing bottle (8.45 Fl Oz).
  2. 1 set of measuring cylinders ( Available from all good vape shops).
  3. 5 litres or 1 US gallon of Vegetable Glycerine.
  4. 1 litre or 0.2 US gallons of Propylene Glycol.
  5. 1 litre or 0.2 US gallons of VG Based 7.2% Nicotine solution.
  6. 500ml or 17 Fl Oz of e-juice flavouring.

If you live in the UK, I recommend https://www.darkstarvapour.co.uk/ the prices are great, and delivery is fast too.

Now that you have all the materials needed to make your own e-juice, lets download a free program called eJuice me Up!. This program allows you to calculate how much of each liquid you need in order to create an e-juice of your required strength.

Here is the recipe for my daily vape, Black Cherry Cheesecake:

If you are new to mixing, I recommend setting the recipe calculator to 80% VG and 20% PG, this should produce a smooth vape with just the right amount of throat hit. If you want less visible vapor, then reduce the percentage of VG and compensate with PG. Just be aware that doing so will produce a harsher vape.

The amount of flavoring you add is down to personal taste, I have found that 10% works well for me, but some other people use closer to 20%.

Before Mixing

Before we start mixing , it's important to be aware that the bottle of nicotine solution you are using is fairly concentrated, and it's pretty dangerous stuff. Nicotine Solution is poisonous, so keep it well out of the reach of kids, don't spill it on your skin, and wipe up any spills immediately with plenty of clean water. Its also good practice to wash all your mixing equipment and wipe down the work surfaces after you finish mixing.

If the Vegetable Glycerine (VG) is very cool, it will be thick and gloopy and can be tricky to pour. It's viscosity will reduce as it warms up, so standing it in a bowl of hot water for a while before you begin can make it easier to pour.

Lets Mix!

Carefully measure out the required amounts of each liquid, and add them to the mixing bottle.

Be sure to wash your measuring cylinder before measuring a different liquid in it, that way if you add too much, you can pour the excess back into the bottle without cross-contaminating your supplies.

Once all the liquids have been added to the bottle, screw the lid on and give it a good shake to mix all the different liquids together.

Your e-liquid is now ready to vape, though some flavors will benefit from a process known as "steeping" this basically just involves storing the bottle in a cool dark place for a few weeks to allow the flavors to permeate.
