Quick lil vegan update.

Here's a quick lil vegan update thingy.

So I went vegan close to 3 years ago now. And.. I've documented a lot of my feelings and thoughts along the way.

AND... One thing I like talking about are the animal product substitutes I've tried seeing as that's one of the major reasons I've seen given to go plant based is that people don't want to lose their "taste pleasure".

I've tried a lot of the different ones now and.. In general I think the plant substitutes taste better. Not always, there's a few brands I haven't liked.. But most of them I like more than their counterparts.

Recently I've tried some meatballs and I didn't even like meat balls when I did eat meat, I would almost always pick them off the pizza or noodles or whatever. But.. These vegan ones are bomb! I actually like them, which also makes me wonder if I would like vegan fish...?

Has anyone had vegan fish yet? I'm so curious to try it. I've been allergic to anything that swims in terms of eating it as far back as I can remember.. I would always throw it up.. And now.. I wonder.. Would I throw up vegan fish??? Hmmm..

Also I went to hang out with my friend who is not vegan but is trying to reduce his impact and he wanted to try the beyond burger, but it was sold out at both places! Darn.. Makes me think people really like it!

We got a different brand instead and he put mushrooms and BBQ sauce on it and it was pretty epic. Once again.. I didn't like mushrooms when younger either, so it's neat to see how this change has opened me up so much to eating plants I never used to eat before!

Overall I feel like it's been positive in almost every way.
The OMAD one meal a day diet is pretty tough at times! But even with that.. I feel a lot better than I used to in a lot of ways. Eventually when I work it back up to 3-5 meals a day.. Then I think it's going to be awesome. :)

I don't ever plan on eating animal products again, but I can't 100% rule it out. Maybe some day I'll see some new science that changes my mind or something bizarre will happen.. I dunno... I just really doubt it. I think I'm vegan for life most likely. <3

The great thing is that thanks to some very creative people, no one has to miss out on any of the tastes and textures that they love. I'm grateful that these options exist because, like you alluded to, I think it's very difficult for some people to give them up. Especially right off the bat. I think whatever will keep people off cruelty based foods is an amazing thing. My favorite 'substitute,' if you want to call it that, is probably cashew cheese. That stuff is delicious!

Anyway, glad to hear you are staying strong on your vegan path! You're doing an amazing thing for the world and all the beings that inhabit it. And besides, any new science or studies that come out in support of animal products will likely be written or funded by the meat and dairy industry anyway.

Indeed! Well said. And yeah I love the cashew cheese, and almond cheese, it depends on the brand of course, but most of the vegan cheeses I've had have been good!

Thanks for the nice words and support, I appreciate that, and I gave you a follow cause I follow all vegans here on steemit cause I assume you're vegan? Even if not, you seem to be cognizant and aware of it and empathic towards the animals, so I want to surround myself with more likeminded peoples.

And yes. I tend to agree.. I find it highly unlikely any science will show animal products to be good, though there is this weird sort of fringe raw meat eating movement that is gaining in popularity and there's not a lot of science there.. Most experts say cook your food or else you risk getting sick and even dying, but.. There's many who eat their meat all raw and claim it's the most optimal diet.

So.. You know.. I dunno. I tend to imagine cutting it doesn't cause all those ill effects and that eating it raw won't be some kind of magical bullet sort of solution, though I'm a very skeptical open minded person so I try to not close up too much and try to allow other points of view in, even if I disagree with them very much.

I still every once and a while come back to questioning even my own deepest held beliefs, like.. Is it okay to harm others? Cause I think it's good to re examine everything you believe, people tend to get stuck in patterns of thinking they know it all and have all the answers, and thankfully every time I ask about harming others, the answer is always he same, so in the same root or vein hopfully that will be the case with eating plants vs meat into the future as well.

Cause.. It would be a special kind of hell to have to kill beings as a part of regular diet. I believe in not harming others unless absolutely necessary. And I see plenty of healthy plant eaters, millions.. Going back thousands of years.. I like to believe and think I'm on the right side of history. Thanks for your feedback!

Awesome! Thanks for the follow! I am indeed vegan and I'm definitely gonna be writing about various concepts regarding veganism, among other things. Just started here on Steemit and was really busy this week, but definitely looking to get more and more active on it. Seems like a decent place to have discussion and hopefully we can all learn from each other. I agree with what you said about keeping an open mind. I think we all too often get stuck in our ways and enjoy the comfort that habitual thought patterns can bring. But I think it's important to remember we are all in a constant state of learning and there are always opportunities for further growth. Especially when discussing viewpoints of opposing opinions. Looking forward to more of your updates!

I've never had vegan fish...but I typically try to stay away from the faux meats products. That being said, I've had some decent ones, but I'm terrible at keeping track of brands.

What is the OMAD diet? I like food too much to only eat once per day, but I also enjoy mini fasts, so that might be nice.

Is the Beyond Burger the same as the Impossible Burger? I've been meaning to try that one. I think it's created by some celebrity chef, but I don't remember which one. Michael Simon maybe?

I only eat the faux meats occasionally as a sort of treat cause I enjoy the tastes from before i was vegan as bizarre as it sounds to me sometimes. Dunno why I would want to mimic the taste of dead animal flesh and secretions, but.. There's something psychological there sorta like a smoker who uses a patch to slowly help them wean off of it.

The OMAD is one meal a day.
Some people call it the warrior diet.
Some high level athletes do it, but.. I don't personally think it's the best.

I think 3-5 meals is more natural and healthy, however.. In the end.. OMAD has one thing on the others. And that's that beings tend to live longer the less they eat, studies on rats show this and I think there may be some human population studies as well.

But.. In the end, one BIG meal at the end of the day could be the same amount of food as 3-5 smaller ones. So not sure.. Depends on how you do it I guess.
Supposedly it's similar to the atkins low carb kind of diets in that you starve your body and it runs on it's own reserves rather than the food you eat.

This tends to cut out fatty areas more and make you more lean, and also purifies your body to an extent as you spend less time digesting and chewing and all that work the body does to eat.
I also hear testosterone is released when in that state, but.. I haven't admittedly got too deep into the research. I'm doing it mostly for money reasons. I feel it's cheaper and easier to just eat one big meal at the end of the day, than numerous smaller ones, plus.. I don't take naps anymore after eating in the daytime like I used to so I think it makes me a lot more productive.

However in the end.. I do think 3-5 smaller meals is prolly best.
Hope that helps!

And the beyond burger is different from the impossible one, I think something happened to the impossible one. Lemme google it real quick.

Not sure if it's out yet or not, but is' been delayed a while!
Also the beyond burger was just put up as an item in all the A&W restaurants in Canada which was a pretty big deal. Most of the vegans didn't like it though cause it has non vegan mayonnaise and they cook/cut/prepare them on the same surfaces as the animal products.

Thanks for that link! I've been wanting to try the Impossible Burger. It's been available in the Cleveland area for quite some time now. However, if it's linked to cancer, I'm thinking I might just keep putting it off for a little while longer.

I would love to eat just one meal a day. (As I type that I realize why it's called the OMAD diet... :-)) However, I like food too much to limit myself in that way. I much prefer to eat smaller snack throughout the course of a day, but I feel like I tend to put on weight that way, even if they are healthy snacks. It's like my stomach just adjusts for more food all the time and gets bigger and bigger so I'm hungry more and more often. I typically eat twice a day with coffee in the morning and a snack in the evening. It's not quite working though; I can feel the fat winning the battle and my pants getting tighter! Vegan diets are supposed to be healthy...well, all things in moderation, even vegetables!

My brother does the Keto diet and has had a lot of success. He's lost about 30 pounds and feels great. I considered a vegan-keto for a few minutes, but quickly decided that would never work out.

awesome! so happy you are finding stuff that you can eat. those vegan meals sound great, i hope keeping yoir energy up too. blessings, eagle

Thanks for the positive feedback friend. :) It's been an adventure and a very positive one so far, hopefully it continues to be into the future! And if I do ever eat animal products again, I'll definitely at the very least be much more respectful and cognizant/aware of the whole process and I'll eat much less than I used to which I thing is almost certainly a good thing.
