Vegan Anarchy: Are vegans and anarchists 'preachy'?

in vegan •  7 years ago  (edited)

Spreading the message of freedom, self-ownership, and non-aggression in today's society is more often than not an invitation for ridicule from the slumbering masses. To declare oneself an anarchist, or voluntaryist, and actively champion the ideas of freedom in a society heavily entrenched in collectivism and moral relativism certainly puts a target on one's back and is a road less traveled. Not so long ago anarchists, freedom fighters, and leading thought revolutionaries would have been persecuted and burned at the stake for trying to illuminate the minds of others and emblazon freedom in the hearts and minds of men, so we should count our blessings.

With that said, peeling back the many deceptive layers of statism and promoting fierce independence and sovereignty over subservience to a political ruling class isn't without its challenges in modern-day society. Anarchists, those political dissidents who insist all human interaction be voluntary and consensual, who refuse to conform to the illusory political left/right paradigm, are often accused of 'preaching' or forcing their non-conformist ideas onto others.

Anarchists are so strong in their convictions, having come to the scientific understanding of individual liberty, that they feel compelled to act and spread this vital message to humanity. To awaken mankind from its slumber.

"Authority has been the ideological disease of mankind. And finally, a mass of anarchists have been injected into the artery of society as antibodies geared to combat this illness." - Sterlin Luxan

Anarchists have freedom down to a science and feel this science should be widely taught to as many people as possible, as soon as possible, to avoid a third world war and possible nuclear catastrophe. The stakes have never been higher; today we live in a world where our political masters have exclusive access to nuclear weapons and a monopoly on weapons of mass destruction. If we don't act fast, humanity's superstitious and largely unchallenged belief in political authority could trigger a chain of events that lead to our own demise.

The masses may find our ideas impractical, or downright insane. They may accuse us of preaching dogma for calling out the horrors of statism. But we know the truth. Just as Martin Luther King Jr., Thomas Paine, Gandhi, and Jesus etc. knew the truth. To stand firm in one's convictions, in the face of overwhelming ridicule and scrutiny, takes courage, discipline, and an indomitable will.

As I stated in a previous post (Vegan Anarchy: Awakening the Sacred Masculine), know that whenever you participate in The Great Work of educating others you call upon the great revolutionaries of the past. Those immortalised men, women, and children who laid down their lives in the name of freedom. By illuminating and awakening the minds of others you join the ranks of those courageous pioneers who dared to declare their sovereignty and independence. Who dared to stand up to the tyrants and say, 'NO! You are not the boss of me!'

So, yes, while anarchists may be accused of being 'preachy', I stand firm in the faith that the message of freedom is a message worth preaching. The abolitionists preached the abolition of slavery. Jesus preached The Golden Rule. And anarchists, who join the ranks of those immortalised revolutionaries of the past, preach universal freedom and unbridled sovereignty for all.

Preach on, anarchists. Preach on...

'Vegans are preachy & self-righteous'

Although they may not know it, anarchists share a lot in common with vegans. Vegans, those plant-eating non-conformists who are observant of the non-aggression principle towards all sentient beings, as @teamsteem states in his bio, are also accused of being preachy and self-righteous for daring to shed light on the horrors of factory farming and animal agriculture.

Roughly 150 billion land animals are slaughtered worldwide each year in the meat, egg, and dairy industries, which, to put things into perspective, dwarfs the number of humans killed in wars throughout history, as anywhere from 150 million to one billion people have lost their lives on the battlefield. The animal agriculture industry is, as Ken O'Keefe said, 'the holocaust times a thousand'.

Many of these animals, as undercover slaughterhouse footage and documentaries such as earthlings have revealed, are tortured and subject to the most horrific conditions in captivity. Here in the U.K., pigs are lowered squealing and thrashing into gas chambers at just six months old. Male calves are typically bolt-gunned in the head and sold as veal, because they are seen as useless byproducts of the dairy industry, not being able to produce any milk of their own. Female cows are perpetually artificially inseminated against their will, only to have their newborn ripped away from them 24 to 48 hours after birth so the milk can be extracted and bottled on the supermarket shelves.

Now, whilst I do not advocate bringing up the topic of veganism, or anarchism, at any given opportunity at social gatherings, I'm fairly confident that, if we traded places with the animals, we would most certainly want people 'preaching' about our freedom. In fact, if I was voiceless and happened to be stuck on a truck en-route to a slaughterhouse, I would want people screaming about it from the rooftops.

Wouldn't you?

Our ability to exercise empathy and compassion is one of our greatest gifts, and if more people were to simply put themselves in the position of the animals, they would understand why vegans are so passionate and 'preachy' about animal liberation.

The belief in government is, as Larken Rose said, the most dangerous superstition. And the belief in carnism is one of the biggest moral dilemmas we face as a species. Vegans and anarchists may be 'preachy', but that is because they understand just how valuable freedom, non-aggression, and compassion is for the moral and spiritual development of our species. As morality increases, freedom increases. And as morality declines, freedom declines.

Freedom for all sentient beings is worth preaching, so get on your megaphone, or on Steemit, and PREACH.

Great insights. I learned that preaching is like hitting a 1 meter thick wall with your bare hands. You can not teach anything to anyone, you can just show them how you act based on your principles, and they might question their own actions. Maybe.

Resteemed. Good job and well said. Love the quote by Luxan, I hadn't seen it before. Hey buddy. A few things.

  1. The universe is Spoken into existence. The dark side NEVER shuts up, never reflects and says, "Hmm, am I talking about this too much? Are people getting tired of hearing this message?" Nope. They yab yab yab yab yab until people agree with them, and they get what they want. Case in point: Evil George W. Bush and his Satanic brethren NEVER stopped talking about the need to invade Iraq. And they got what they wanted. KEEP TALKING.

  2. Out here in the Chinese countryside, I was asked to drink some milk. I declined and was inspired to give a different type of reply. I hope you will take a look and use it. It really makes the issue visceral and hits people square in the heart and stomach, which is where most decisions are made, (how it makes one FEEL). They did NOT want to drink milk after I put it to them this way: https://steemit.com/milk/@michaelmcawesome/want-a-glass-of-milk

  3. My presentation was GREAT! I didn't record it, but on May 1 I spoke the goodness into existence by screen capturing and recording my own voice. A presentation to humanity, if you will. Thanks @michaelmcawesome, and very salient points, especially on the powers that be using repetition, repetition, repetition as a means to achieve their goals.

I look forward to listening to your presentation this evening; you definitely have a knack for public speaking, keep it up!

I appreciate the compliment, and look forward to your thoughts. You're a good guy! Glad we got to know each other here. I think I'm alright at public speaking, but can still improve. However, I do have passion and have had good Youtube teachers to emulate.

Excellent article.
You said, "To stand firm in one's convictions, in the face of overwhelming ridicule and scrutiny, takes courage, discipline, and an indomitable will."
And i would like to add that it's helpful to have allies when one is facing the slumbering masses, so for that, we are also perhaps more fortunate here than some of the revolutionary leaders/preachers you listed as more and more people are beginning to step up and share bravely messages of freedom for all sentient beings. Thank you for being one of them.

Thank you for your kind words @tamaralee, I agree that we're in a much more fortunate position than the leaders of the past. God bless the internet.

Amen brother! I've learned that when you come across someone who hates vegans you just need to ask why. And then ask again and again. Slowly they will start to realize the ridicule of their own words and soften up.
More often than not these kinds of people are so insecure and cannot manage a single threat to their view of the world. Because that would mean that they are wrong and that equals kaos.
Loved your post!

Thanks @nicoleslife, I agree!

There are people of all kind in the this world. Sure I have seen my share of shitty vegans too. When they come too close I just show them my canine teeth :-)

You right
