Decent vegan fare at White Castle?
A vegan slider sounds like an oxymoron, but I heard just yesterday that White Castle will begin offering Impossible Foods meatless burger in slider form at select locations. Lucky for me I'm only 15 minutes away from one and sampled some this afternoon. The verdict - pretty good - pretty, pretty, pretty good!!!! I thought I'd have to have quite a buzz for them to taste good, but luckily this wasn't the case.
How does it taste?
After adopting a plant-based diet last November, I regrettably thought my White Castle days were over. Years ago I had a veggie burger at White Castle and it sucked!!!! The Impossible Slider, however, is a different animal (maybe that's a poor word choice). This meatless variety definitely satisfied my craving for White Castle.
The details:
Each burger costs $1.99 roughly twice the cost of a traditional slider. It's a bit pricey but well worth the cost as I now have something really tasty and meat-free to eat at White Castle. Each burger comes by default with a slice of smoked cheddar, but I asked them to skip it. The burger was actually a bit thicker than a regular White Castle hamburger and really did taste like a burger made of meat. That being said, I don't think it is a health food, but it's good to know I can stop by whenever I get a craving and satisfy it guilt-free.
I plan to try a regular sized Impossible Burger next week at another local restaurant (The Office) and I'll review that too! Glad to see there are some alternative choices for those with a vegan lifestyle.
@heart-to-heart - Here's review #1 of 2 I promised you; going to try the regular sized Impossible Burger on Monday. Stay tuned for the details.
