Vitamin B12 is one of only 2 vitamins (D is the other one, made by the sun on your skin) that are not made by plants. Every other vitamin is made by plants or it’s a mineral absorbed from the ground by plants, or it’s a protein that’s metabolized using solar energy by plants. But B12 is actually made by micros, not by plants.
==Natural sources of B12==
Think about how our ancestors lived. They were gathering wild food. And they also drank water from lakes and streams. This water was not coordinated so the water had bacteria growing in it, therefore the water contained B12. They picked up a piece of fruit from the ground that wasn’t sterilized; it had B12 on this fruit. So pretty much they were getting enough B12 every day, just naturally in the course of their lives.
==What do we do today?==
We eat sterilized food and drink sterilized water. Our water is so coordinated, it’s not going to have B12. However, I don’t advice you to drink unsterilized water like our ancestors did because you don’t know what else is going to be in it. The same with food. If you eat unsterilized, you will get some B12, yet might also get E. Coli, so I do not recommend that. Consuming unterilized food and water may be natural, but keep in mind that natural doesn’t always mean healthier or better. (Medicines, stone houses and shoes also are not natural, but they are a lot safer than not treating a disease, living in a tree or walking bare feet). I’m recommending both vegans and non-vegans to take a B12 supplement in this day of age where all of our food is sterilized. B12 is extremely inexpensive, it’s not a big deal to take it. Don’t play games with your health. Just go out and get a good vegan B12 supplement and take it as indicated on the bottle and you don’t have to worry.
