This one goes out to all the pea-haters out there because, before this recipe, I too was part of that crowd.
Friends, be prepared to see peas in a whole new light.
Ingredients:
- Pam spray
- 1 tsp oil
- 1 large white onion
- 4 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp crushed red pepper
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 2 cans of small sweet peas
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- fresh cilantro
Directions:
Spray nonstick pan with Pam spray and add 1 tsp of oil, the type of oil you use is up to your discretion. Finely dice up the onion and garlic. Fry the onion and garlic add in the crushed red pepper. Fry until onion starts turning brown. Then add in the garam masala, cayenne pepper, and cumin. Stir the spices in and fry for another minute.
Drain and rinse both cans of peas. Add peas to the mixture and add the turmeric. Then fry this concoction for another minute.
Finally add in a 1/2 cup of water, salt, and black pepper. Mix together. Rip some fresh cilantro by hand to add on top of the mixture.
Cover and let simmer for approximately 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Then, voilà!
Note: If the peas are still not as spicy as you’d like them add some more red pepper until the heat is to your liking.
