School gardening is fun and the spirit of bayanihan is really present. We're told by the teacher last Thursday's meeting, that we (FL parents) will be the encharged for this year's Grade 1 Gulayan sa Paaralan. We agreed to be present in school at exactly 7:30 o'clock in the morning. Attendance is a must.
Gulayan sa Paaralan is a yearly school gardening contest in every school level from kindergarten to grade 6. Parents will do the gardening works. The most creative with healthy vegetables plants will win. The officers from the school's division will be the judges.
School Gardening Purpose
The purpose of having gardens inside the school premises is to have fresh and organic vegetables, which will be used as the main ingredients for the school feeding program this July. July will celebrates Nutrition Month. This feeding is for all students.
We will bring additional soil and manure as our fertilizers, instead of buying synthetic fertilizers in the market for it is expensive and harmful too. We will plant okra as being assigned by the teacher. Other grade 1 parents will plant other veggies.
I enjoyed the work. I can go from here sweating and knowing that I was doing something good for others. This means camaraderie, a sense of responsibility. I believe people need to have good produce too.
Not only it is amazing to have fresh produce come in, but it can also a good source when food today are too costly.
