The Landcruiser HZJ78

in vehiclephotography •  7 years ago

There are not many cars that deserve to be called offroad vehicle. One of these certainly is the Landcruiser HZJ78. In Africa, they call it Bush-Taxi and in Australia Troopy.

It has not a lot of power, the Diesel-Engine has only 140 HP, nor plenty of comfort, but it is built simple, tough and has no fancy electronic stuff on board that may fail at the wrong time.
It's not only the part time four-wheel drive that counts but a reasonable ground clearance and of course the diff locks might come in handy.

So many organizations relay on that type of car like for example the Red Cross from Colombia. Not to mention the world-traveler fraction and lots of offroad-addicted.

In my country, you may not import those Cruisers anymore because of environmental reasons, but they are still produced for other markets. I'm lucky to own one and I hope it lasts for another couple of years traveling on this planet.

Nice. You don't see many of those over here. They salt on the roads eats the cars alive.

Very true! I brought mine to a workshop to apply a special treatment, also in all the places inside where it's hollow. (No plan how you say this in English). Now it looks like new and it should be save for some more years. Hopefully.

Nice! We never got Diesels, or a 2 door model like that in the US.
