Classic Cars: Volvo 1800 S

in vehiclephotography •  7 years ago

Just when you thought that I ran out of classic cars to show you, I pop in another one. This Volvo started as the P1800 but in 1963 through 1969 it had the 1800 S designation. Some of you may have memories of Roger Moore tooling around in one of these, but I personally have no recollection of seeing this machine on TV as where I lived I was way more likely to see La Billo's Caracas Boys blasting "La Casa de Fernando" on Venevision. But I digress. I saw this Car at a Supermarket in Lochem and asked for and got permission to take few shots at this original un-restored classic provided I wipe the plates.

Another fun factoid about the Volvo 1800 S is that it held the record for one owner miles which stood at 4.8 Million miles (7,7 Million KM) in 2013.

I try not to think of Roger Moore EVER. Can't think why not. Oh, maybe it has something to do with being star struck by Bond in Russia with Love at age 9. Whatever came next was sacrilige.

Presume you can identify the vehicle of the One and only Bond - 1964.

Close enough?

Nah, we can do better. How about James Dean's Car?

Ok, this picture is a little better: Both have their tops down.

Aha, got it, an exact match: 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster.

I can agree fully on the sacrilege bit.

Full marks and whatdyaknow 3 cents reward (took the gamble).
And the street? (Kidding)

Giggles!

.... but I DO happen to know...

Back alley behind No. 10 Downing Street?

Close but not getting (Churchill's) cigar.
Only five miles out.
They say it's around here:

Your powers of deduction and observation never cease to amaze me.

Much has changed since that picture was taken and the 2 story buildings in the background are likely to have been torn down for lack of efficiency. Thanks for letting me know.
